Philip Rivers and company, which controlled the ball 33:18, posted 411 yards and 21 first downs; the Chargers defense held Miami to 248 total yards. The 26-16 win marked the first time this season that Rivers had not thrown an interception. He finished the day 21-of-31 for 307 yards and one touchdown.
Denver, which played competitive football in its first three outings of the season, got destroyed 49-23 last Sunday by the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Quarterback Kyle Orton, who has heard the boo birds quite a few times this season, turned in another inconsistent performance as he tossed three touchdowns and three interceptions. In contrast, Aaron Rodgers decimated Denver's 23rd ranked defense with a 408 yard, four touchdown outing.
Denver beat San Diego 39-38 at Mile High in September of 2008, but the Broncos have slipped past the Chargers just one time since that meeting (34-23 win at San Diego in October of 2009). San Diego has won the last three meetings between the clubs by an average of 18.3 points per game. The Bolts bested Denver 33-28 at Mile High last year.
