Defensive end, Julius Peppers, will be back at his old stadium with his former teammates on Sunday, but wearing a Bears jersey. Peppers played with Carolina for eight seasons and after the team decided not to resign him. He later signed with Chicago on a six-year $91.5 million deal. So far Peppers has two sacks with Chicago, but the Bears are trying to get him some help by signing Charles Grant (47 career
sacks).
The Bears will also be playing without quarterback Jay Cutler for the first time since he started with Chicago on Sunday. Last week against the Giants, Cutler was hurt pretty badly suffering a concussion, after a tough hit on his 9th sack. All 9 sacks occurred in the first half of the game, and NFL record. The Bears got their first loss to New York, 17-3.
In for Cutler will be Todd Collins, who took over for Cutler in the second half of the game last week, before also getting hit pretty hard and being taken out of the game. Mike Martz, who is working as the team’s offensive coordinator for the first year, takes full responsibility for what happened to Cutler.
"I just tried to do way too much in a short week with these guys," said Martz. "Whatever went wrong in that game was my responsibility."
The Panthers will be starting rookie QB Jimmy Clausen for the third time, after making some improvement last week. He scored two touchdowns last week against New Orleans, going 11 of 21 for 146 yards.
