2011 NFL Games Week 6: Who’s to blame for the Philadelphia Eagles’ early woes this season? Is it Michael Vick? Is it Andy Reid? Is it the defense altogether? Or is it some mysterious reason no one has yet to figure out? Truth is that, if you want to point at those responsible for the Eagles underachieving start, you’re probably going to need extra fingers.
But if we had to simplify things and say ‘what’s the first thing this team has to do in order to give itself a chance
of winning a football game’, the first thing would have to be cutting down turnovers. Coming off a 24-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Vick and Co. committed five turnovers in total.
How can you win a ballgame, against a good team, giving the ball up that many times? It’s nearly impossible. You would lose seemingly every single time. Get $50 in Free NFL Picks Here!
Okay, so now that we have identified ONE of the issues contributing to the Eagles’ 1-4 start, it’s time to start working towards correcting them and getting on track, right? Wrong!
You see, the worst thing a player/team can do is be in denial about what’s an obvious problem… exhibit A. Michael Dwayne Vick in denial:
“I still think I do a good job with the ball,” Vick said after the Bills loss. “I’m going to continue to do a good job with the ball. It’s just things I can’t control but at the same time in a sense I’ve got to find some way to control it. It’s just trying so hard; trying so hard to make a play.
“We’re putting ourselves in a position to win the football game. We feel ourselves putting pressure on the defense and attacking and there’s really no answer for us. And guys are trying so hard, things just happen. Bad things have happened. We’ve just got to correct that. I think we can. And it has to start this week.”
This week, the NFL Odds favorite (1-4) Philadelphia Eagles [-1] will be tested once again, as they take on a team off to a promising start in the NFC East leading, (3-1) Washington Redskins [+1]. Fresh off a Bye Week, Mike Shanahan’s team will come into this game rested, and ready to give Reid and the Eagles hell at FedEx Field.
