South Carolina vs Mississippi State 2011 College Football Predictions Week 7: The Mississippi State Bulldogs welcome the 15th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks Saturday for a SEC battle in Starkville. The game will be televised on the SEC Network. Oddsmakers list the Gamecocks as slight 2 1/2-chalk College Football Odds favorites with a 46 1/2 total.
What's going on with Mississippi State? In pre season I really thought these guys would be a factor in the SEC West and I wasn't alone either. The Bulldogs have been a big disappointment. While going 3-3 SU thus far, they are 1-5 ATS.
South Carolina flies into Starkville Saturday favored by -2 1/2. The Gamecocks really put things together last week with new quarterback, sophomore Connor Shaw under center. Will the Bulldogs step up and be the team they're projected to be or do they fade away?
Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier finally got fed up with the teams inconsistent play on offense and benched three year senior starter Steven Garcia for Shaw in last weeks game versus Kentucky. Shaw delivered too, leading the team to a 54-3 trouncing of the Kentucky Wildcats in front of the home folks at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C. Later in the week, Spurrier dismissed Garcia from the team allegedly for failing to abide by a substance abuse agreement.
South Carolina was the pre-season pick to win the SEC East but since then has been a little erratic going 5-1 SU but failing to cover the point spread in three of six games while the total has split 3-3 for over/under wagering.
I liked what I saw with Shaw under center in Carolina's game with Kentucky. At the same time I have not been impressed with the Bulldogs performance throughout the season. If Spurrier has the Gamecocks on the right track with Shaw, they could pick up a road win and cover a friendly 2 1/2 chalk. My pick – South Carolina -2 1/2.
