NFL Week 6 Betting Odds 2011

by Abe Luciano on Sunday, October 16th, 2011

NFL Week 6 Betting Odds 2011: Two NFC East teams that came into this season with contrasting expectations will meet at FedEx Field this afternoon, as the fading (1-4) Philadelphia Eagles [-1] visit the surging, NFL Betting Odds underdogs, (3-1) Washington Redskins [+1]. Kickoff for this NFL Week 6 Betting Odds 2011 game is scheduled for 1 PM ET on FOX.

If someone had asked you, at the beginning of the season, to predict which of these two teams would occupy the top spot and which would be at the cellar of the division, entering week 6, would you have picked correctly?

As big as a skeptic as I was about handing the Lombardi Trophy (like everyone else was) to the Eagles after signing all those big names, I didn’t even expect them to be this bad. When you look at Philly’s roster — with names like Michael Vick, Nnamdi Asomugha, DeSean Jackson, Ronnie Brown, etc  — it’s impossible to fathom how this team could have just one victory after the first quarter of the 2011 season.

Needing to make some drastic moves, Reid promoted offensive line coach, Juan Castillo to defensive coordinator. Will this move pay off, or is Reid just reaching right now? Get $50 in Free NFL Picks Here!

"The thing that myself, our coaches, and the players, we're going to work our tail off to get it right," Reid said. "That's what we're going to do. We're not backing up a leg, man. That's our approach."

With Eagles fans asking for Andy Reid’s head, they now have to go into the nation’s capital and try to turn their season around against a team that has already began to do so. Mike Shanahan has done a tremendous job in just his second year at the helm of the Skins, as they sit atop the division coming off a bye week.

How has Shanahan done it? Defense, baby! Washington comes into Week 6 allowing the third-fewest points in the NFL (15.8) and a Brian Orakpo-led pass rush that leads the league with an average of 3.8 sacks per game.

"I think you're always more relaxed in your second year," Shanahan said. "I think, first year, you have so many things going on — with evaluating personnel, and you're evaluating coaches, you're evaluating your support staff, and you're getting ready for a football season."

Can they come up big against a desperate, mobile QB like Vick this afternoon? Or will this be the game that finally awakens the Sleeping Giant, Eagle?

Philadelphia is coming off yet another subpar performance last week, as Vick was picked off 4 times in a 24-31 loss. "I think guys are just trying so hard to make a play," Vick said. "We know what we're capable of, we know what we can do."
