NFL Week 7 Favorites

by Matt Foust on Monday, October 17th, 2011

NFL Week 7 Favorites: Yesterday's favorites fared well, going an impressive 7-4-1 against the spread and 10-2 straight up. San Francisco, Jacksonville, Dallas, and Tampa Bay spoiled things from an against the spread perspective and 49ers and Buccaneers also managed to earn straight wins in an underdog roles. This weekend, like the last, is heavy on home favorites as seven of the 10 games presently listed feature a host squad giving points.

The "are they for real" line of the week: NFL Week 7 FavoritesHouston Texans vs Tennessee Titans (-3)

We've almost reached the point in the season where this category will have to fall, but thanks to the Texans it will carry on for at least one or two more weeks. Most people would have sworn Houston really meant it this season, especially after another strong start, but here the team goes again, foiling reason and expectation. Fortunately for the Texans, they may win this time around by default because, despite their inability to get over the hump, the hump in the AFC South this season is incredibly small. If Houston can win at Tennessee on Sunday, we may have to deem them for real, if only in a fake, contrived sort of sense. Get $50 in Free NFL Picks Here.

The "barking dog" line of the week: Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders (-3)

Sure…laugh, scoff, jeer, but KC, at +3, is barking loudly. The Chiefs, which are coming off a bye, appear to have shaken their hideous start and now more closely resemble last season's 10-6 team, despite the loss of Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry. Kansas City also comes in off a bye and they catch the Raiders in a quarterback quandry with yesterday's injury to Jason Campbell. And recent history is also on the Chiefs side here. Consider that KC is 7-1 in its last eight games at Oakland with the lone loss coming last season (23-20 OT).

The "rebound" line of the week: Indianapolis Colts vs New Orleans Saints (-14)

The Saints fell at Tampa Bay yesterday despite posting 453 total yards. Shockingly, Drew Brees was the chief reason behind the unexpected setback as he tossed three interceptions. Indianapolis, which has to find itself less and less motivated, will pay the price for Brees Buccaneer troubles…the Saints win this in a double digit route.
