College Football Picks Week 8: The college football season is getting down to business this eighth week of the season as schools are trying to get bowl eligible while others have higher asperations. I will try to make a few quality College Football Odds picks for this Saturday's card. To date – I am hitting 68% winners on the year and hopefully we get at least that percentage today. It's not my goal to pick every game played; but to be selective regardless of the teams rankings. Often the best betting lines might be in matchups with a lower profile.
For starters let's look at some of Saturday's early games. The North Carolina Tar Heels travel to Clemson, S.C. for a game in Death Valley against the Clemson University Tigers. Clemson is favored in this one by 10 1/2 with a 58 total. I'm going with Clemson to win by a couple of touchdowns so I'm buying -10 1/2 – My Pick – Clemson -10 1/2.
No. 4 Oklahoma State (6-0) travels into dangerous territory today to play the Missouri Tigers to Columbia, Mo. today to play Mizzou (3-3). Oddsmakers at BetOnline.com list OSU a 7-chalk favorite in this one. The Tigers will play hard but the Cowboys will cover -7. My Pick – Cowboys -7.
No. 9 Arkansas (5-1) is taking its high-flying passing show to Oxford, Miss., today to play the Ole Miss Rebels in a matchup between SEC West rivals. Former Arkansas and current Ole Miss Coach Houston Nutt is on the hot seat to win but the Razorbacks will make it hotter. The Razorbacks are favored by 15 1/2 and will get it. My Pick- Razorbacks -15 1/2.
Louisiana Tech (2-4) travels to Logan, Utah this Saturday for a game with the Utah State Aggies (2-4). While both schools have identical records, the Aggies are a better two-and-four than are the Bulldogs. The Aggies are coming off a 10-point loss at Fresno State but will be ready for this one. Oddsmakers line the Aggies to win by 6 1/2 and I agree. My Pick – Utah State -6 1/2.
The Miami U Hurricanes will welcome BCS No. 22 Georgia Tech to South Beach looking to keep pace in the ACC Coastal Division. Miami at 3-3 and 1-2, are near the bottom of the Coastal Division but could take a giant leap with an upset of the division leading Yellow Jackets. Miami is favored by -2 1/2 on its home field. My Pick – Hurricanes -2 1/2.
No. 5 Boise State hosts Air Force Saturday afternoon for its first Mountain West Conference game on the Blue Turf at Bronco Stadium. Boise State is a huge favorite in this one installed by BetOnline.com on the offshore college board by -29 1/2 with a 63 total. My Pick – OVER 63.
Army will find out today that Vanderbilt is not a nice place to play. The Commodores are not on the same level as some of its SEC brothers but they are better than the cadets. Vandy is favored by -11 and will get it. My pick – Vanderbilt -11.
Upsets happen every week and I expect that will happen today in Evanston, Ill., when the Northwestern Wildcats take on Penn State. The Cats are getting +4 as home underdogs in this one. I like it – My Pick – Northwestern +4.
USC vs. Notre Dame is one of college football's best rivalries. The Fighting Irish are lined 9 1/2-chalk favorites this year at home in South Bend. This Irish team is coming along nicely and in search of a BCS bowl. The Irish will win by 10 or more. My Pick – Notre Dame -9 1/2.
Some experts are calling for No. 16 Michigan State to upset No. 6 Wisconsin in East Lansing. The Badgers are lined favorites by -7 with a 50 total. Both schools have been impressive in 2011 but the Badgers more so. My Pick – Wisconsin -7.
