NFL Week 8 Predictions

by Matt Foust on Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

NFL Week 8 Predictions: Home underdogs continued their pedestrian performance last weekend, pulling out a 3-2 record against the number while going 2-3 straight up. Current lines show the Steelers, Seahawks, and Chiefs taking points at home, but the Rams, which host the Saints, and the Broncos, who welcome the Lions to Denver, are also certain to draw home underdog status. History has taught us that at least one or two, perhaps, even three of those teams will cover the spread this weekend, but which ones stand the best chance of foiling their opposition?

New England Patriots vs Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Week 8 Predictions(+2.5): The Patriots have gotten the better of things in this series of late, winning three of the last four including the last two at Heinz Field. However, the Steelers appear to be hitting their stride at the right time. Pittsburgh, like New England, has won three straight games, and it is undefeated at home where it is yielding an average of 10 points per game. This is strength versus strength with the Pats top ranked passing offense going against the Steelers top ranked pass defense, but the bigger matchup may be Pittsburgh's quality aerial attack squaring off against New England's abysmal secondary. That alone may be enough to side with the home team in this case.

San Diego Chargers vs Kansas City Chiefs (+3): Kansas City pulled off a Monday night upset against the Chargers to open the 2010 season and it nearly defeated San Diego last month, falling 20-17 at Qualcomm Stadium as a 14.5 point dog. The Chargers, despite their 4-2 record, have not looked right this season with Philip Rivers having thrown nine interceptions to just seven touchdowns. San Diego is the more talented team, but the Chiefs have a lot of momentum right now, having one three straight games. And you can bet that Arrowhead Stadium will be jacked for this Halloween clash against a hated division rival. The Chargers are also 1-5 against the spread coming off a straight up/against the spread loss when facing an opponent off a double-digit straight up win.
