BYU vs. TCU 2011 College Football Odds Week 9: The TCU Horned Frogs, who will be leaving the Mountain West Conference for the Big 12 in 2012, will play the BYU Cougars tonight at Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. The Cougars left the MWC after the 2010 season and would love to show the Big 12 just how good it is with an upset of the Horned Frogs tonight. Kickoff for this ESPN televised game is set for 8:00 p.m. ET. Neither TCU or BYU are ranked but both are getting votes in the major college football polls. Oddsmakers at online sportsbook BetOnline.com list TCU a 13 1/2-chalk College Football Odds favorite in this one with a combined game score of 56.
As underdogs, Cougars backers are getting +400 odds on the offshore moneyline to pull off a SU upset of the Horned Frogs while TCU backers are paying -495 ($495 bet to win $100). BYU, at 6-2 SU on the season will be looking for its sixth straight up win tonight and third straight cover of the betting spread.
The Cougars are coming off a 56-3 victory over Idaho State last Saturday, a game in which the Cougars were favored by -42. BYU opened its season with a one point (14-13) road win over SEC member Ole Miss, then fought hard in week 2 but losing by a point (16-17) to the Texas Longhorns. Week 3 was a disaster for the Cougars losing big to arch rivals Utah Utes 10-54 as 4-chalk favorites. Since that pittiful performance Sept. 30, the Cougars have reeled off five straight wins. BYU is 3-4 ATS while the total has gone UNDER in three of five games.
TCU's early hopes for BCS glory in 2011 took an early hit by losing 48-50 to the Baylor Bears on the road in Week 1. The Frogs regrouped to win their next three games at Air Force, Louisiana-Monroe and Portland State before falling to their arch rivals SMU Mustangs 33-40, in a game they were favored by -13. Since the loss, TCU won a road game at San Diego State followed by a 69-0 pummeling of New Mexico in Fort Worth. TCU is 5-2 SU on the season and 3-3-1 ATS. The combined game scores have gone OVER the posted total in six of seven games TCU has played.
After looking at each teams strengths and weaknesses on both sides of the ball; I've come to the conslusion that TCU will win tonight and cover as 13 1/2 point favorites. If the line was any more than that I'd lean the other way. My Pick – TCU -13 1/2.
