It took the Steelers a little while to look
like, well, the Steelers, but Mike Tomlin's squad appears to have regained its identity just in time. Pittsburgh cannot afford to be anything but its best today as it hosts a New England team that has a way of giving it fits, regardless of location.
Pittsburgh, which has lost three of its last four against the Patriots, including the last two meetings between the two teams at Heinz Field, comes in with the hot hand, having won three straight over Tennessee, Jacksonville, and Arizona. Ben Roethlisberger has played nearly flawless football the last three weeks, throwing for 789 yards, nine touchdowns, and just one interception in route to a 111.4 passer rating.
The Steelers defense has been stout as well, limiting the Titans, Jags, and Cardinals to an average of 16.7 points and 281.7 yards per game.
Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, the Patriots, which are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven post-bye games as road favorite, present a far more difficult challenge than any of those offenses.
New England leads the league in yards per game at 474.5 and it is second only to the Saints and Packers in terms of points per game (30.8). Tom Brady has thrown an uncharacteristic eight interceptions this season, but ranks first in pass yards per game (360.5), second in quarterback rating (104.8), and third in touchdown passes (16).
Brady has also been brilliant againt the Steelers through out his illustrious career. New England is 4-1 against Pittsburgh with Brady under center. In those five games the three time Super Bowl winner completed 68.1 percent of his passes for 1686 yards and 12 touchdowns (104.1 rating).
