Denver Broncos vs San Francisco 49ers 2010 NFL Odds, 2010 NFL Picks & 2010 NFL Predictions: The troubled (2-5) Denver Broncos [+2] and the distressed (1-6) San Francisco 49ers [-2] will hope to try and figure things out this week as they face off in London live from Wembley Stadium starting at 1 PM ET. London fans have had the pleasure of seeing some of the NFL’s top teams such as the New England Patriots last year, the New Orleans Saints in 2008, as well as the New York Giants in 2007.
This year they will see two struggling teams trying to overcome a tough start. To top it off, they will have to endure long flights and jet lag for this week’s game. But coach Mike Singletary of San Francisco, thinks the trip overseas may do his team some good. According to 2010 NFL Odds, 2010 NFL Picks & 2010 NFL Predictions experts at SPORTSBOOK.com, the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers will combine and score a grand OVER/UNDER total of 42 points.
"For us, it's a nice chance to get away and regroup, rethink," Singletary said. "It really works to be a bonus for us. It really gives us a chance to kind of get away from the hustle and bustle of the NFL, to come over and kind of think through some things, look at maybe some changes we need to make."
This week Singletary will be starting Troy Smith in place of David Carr, after Carr’s disappointing play last week against Carolina. Carr stepped in after Alex Smith separated his shoulder, but finished last week with 5 of 13 for 67 yards, after the 49ers lost 23-20.
Carr finished things off by throwing an interception with 1:08 left in the game, allowing Carolina to set up the go-ahead field goal. So now they will try things out with Smith.
"Troy Smith gives us a good opportunity to win this game," Singletary said. "I talked to David Carr about it. He understands."
The 2-5 Broncos have also had their share of trouble, which was topped off last weekend against Oakland. Denver tied the franchise record for points allowed in a game, when they lost to the Raider 59-14 at home. In the first quarter alone, the Broncos gave up 24 points and at the end of the game allowed 508 yards of offense.
Quarterback Kyle Orton went 12 of 29 for 198 yards. He had two touchdowns as well as one interception. The game was so embarrassing, Denver coach Josh McDaniels felt the need to apologize.
"I apologize to (owner) Pat (Bowlen) and the organization, all the fans and everyone else," McDaniels said. "It was awful."
This will be the first time the 49ers and the Broncos meet since 2006, when San Francisco defeated Denver 26-23 in overtime.
