2011 NFL Schedule Week 9 & Odds: Yesterday's action answered more than a few questions as the Steelers and Eagles made big statements over the Patriots and Cowboys respectively. This weekend features plenty of big games as well with the Buccaneers and Saints squaring off at the Superdome and the surprising Bills hosting the surging Jets.
The "are they for real" line of the week:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs New Orleans Saints (-9)
Tampa Bay looked liked a playoff contender early on and they are still very much in the thick of the NFC South race, but questions are starting to surface about this team. Since their 3-1 start, the Bucs have sandwiched a 26-20 win over the Saints between two ugly losses, a 48-3 debacle in San Francisco and a 24-18 setback to the Bears in London. Josh Freeman looked awful in those losses, completing just 54 percent of his passes while throwing six interceptions. A strong showing against New Orleans this week, even in a loss, will reassure Bucs fans that their team is not headed for a cliff.
The "barking dog" line of the week: New York Jets vs Buffalo Bills (-1)
New York sat out of action this weekend, but it appears to be regaining some momentum after back-to-back wins against the Dolphins and Chargers. The Bills looked great yesterday in thrashing the Redskins 23-0, but the Jets have won three straight over Buffalo and they are 3-0 in their last three games at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Yeah, it's only one point, but why not take it?
The "rebound" line of the week: Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs New Orleans Saints (-9)
Okay, we already covered this one, but the Saints seem like a no-brainer here, particularly without the full compliment of odds to examine. New Orleans two previous losses this season were followed up by 30-13 and 62-7 victories. It's only recent history, but it still says the Saints will rebound and do so in strong fashion. Other potential candidates include the Cowboys, who got embarrassed by the Eagles last night, and the Raiders, who got smoked 28-0 at home by the Chiefs before going into their bye week.
