The Buffalo Bills lead the AFC East with a
5-2 record, but they are trying to rediscover the level of consistency that characterized their early season play. Since its 0-3 start, Buffalo has yet to win back-to-back games. The Bills can halt that trend this weekend, though, after their 23-0 win over the Redskins on Sunday.
Buffalo's offense, which ranks 10th in the league at 380.1 yards per game, had a good afternoon, posting 390 yards and a 50 percent third down conversion rate, but, surprisingly, it was the defense that starred against Washington. The Bills entered the game with one of the worst defenses in the league statistically, but they held the Redskins to 10 first downs and 178 total yards and they sacked John Beck nine times.
While it would be unrealistic to expect that kind of effort against the Jets, it might be something for the unit to build on going forward. And if it does, Buffalo should be in the division title chase all the way through December.
New York comes in to this contest off a bye, but prior to its week of rest the team won back-to-back home games over the Dolphins and Chargers to bring its record to 4-3 overall.Those two wins combined with the Jets recent success over the Bills probably has the team feeling confident that it can extend its win streak to three games.
New York has won five of its last six games against Buffalo, including the last three at Ralph Wilson Stadium by an average of 13 points per game. The Jets have not fared well on the road this season, going 0-3 away from MetLife Stadium, but they should get things turned around this weekend.
