The surging Bengals improved to 5-2 last weekend and extended their current win
streak to four games with a 34-12 pounding of the Seahawks in Seattle. Cincinnati, which is one of the best bets in the league this season at 6-1 against the spread, went into the Seahawks game a slight 1.5 point road favorite. Once again, the team proved the odds makers foolish for doubting them, but they did so in a rather unconventional manner.
The Bengals, who played without suspended running back Cedric Benson (back this week), posted 252 yards to Seattle's 411, but they scored on a 56 yard punt return and a 75 yard interception to turn the game into a route.
Rookie quarterback Andy Dalton, who has surprised many with his play through seven games, turned in a pedestrian performance, throwing for 168 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions (72.2 passer rating). Dalton, who owns a 82.7 quarterback rating, has now tossed nine touchdowns to seven picks on the season.
Tennessee snapped a two games skid and rebounded from an ugly 41-7 home loss to the Texans by whipping AFC South rival Indianapolis last Sunday. The Titans won the game 27-10; however, like the Bengals, they prevailed in unusual fashion.
Indianapolis finished with more first downs and more yards than Tennessee, but two Colts interceptions and a blocked punt that resulted in a Titans touchdown propelled Mike Munchak's troops to their fourth win of the season.
The favorite has covered and won in six of the last seven meetings between these two clubs, but Cincinnati looks like the more capable team, especially with Benson in the backfield. Until Tennessee proves it is past its recent struggles against a good team, it is difficult to side with them as a favorite, even at home.
