South Florida vs Syracuse 2011 College Football Predictions

by John Day on Thursday, November 10th, 2011

South Florida vs Syracuse Predictions: The University of South Florida Bulls (4-4, 0-4 Big East), reeling from four consecutive losses, find themselves heading northbound to play the Orange of Syracuse University (5-4, 1-3) in a pivotal BIG EAST football battle at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y. this Friday (8 p.m. ET, ESPN2). While winning a conference championship is out of the equation for both schools; becoming bowl eligible is the main focus now with Thursday's game, one of three left on their regular season schedules.

Oddsmakers for the offshore betting board at BetOnline.com list the Bulls 3 1/2-chalk College Football South Florida vs Syracuse 2011 College Football PredictionsOdds favorites with a combined scoring total (over/under) of 51 1/2. Gamblers wishing to bet the Orange to win SU are getting +155 odds on the offshore moneyline while backers ofroad favorites USF Bulls are laying -175.

USF got its 2011 campaign off to a rosy start by going on the road to South Bend, Indiana and defeating Notre Dame on its home field 23-20. The Bulls were big underdogs in that game getting +10 1/2 points ATS and +320 moneyline. The SU victory sent moneyline bettors home happy, collecting as +320 ml winners. The Bulls reeled off a winning streak of four straight games and headed into week-5 ranked 16th in the AP College Football Poll. At that time Bulls coach Skip Holtz was the toast of Tampa; then the wheels came off the wagon. USF started a streak of a different kind once league play began, losing four in a row before heading to Syracuse for Friday's game.

The Orange started off ok beating Wake Forest in its home opener 36-29 and covering ATS as 6-chalk favorites. Syracuse won four of its first six games including a 49-23 SU upset of BIG EAST favorite West Virginia. Orange backers collected in the game as +14 point underdogs. Since that game, the Orange has lost two consecutive road games at Louisville and at Connecticut. The game with USF is its first home game for the Orange since it's October 21 victory over the Mountaineers. Syracuse is 3-6 ATS while the OVER has been the best totals bet in 6-of-9 games.

Syracuse getting points as a home dog sits well with bettors as early trends show 75 percent backing the Orange to cover ATS while 52% have wagered the point total to fall under the posted number.

So what do we have here? We have Syracuse, a team with a better record, needing one more win to become bowl eligible playing USF a team that's falling apart but giving points on the road in a very hostile venue. I don't get it but know how to bet it. My prediction – Syracuse +3 1/2.
