The Vikings are still dealing with the impact of their horrific 0-4 start, but the team has played better football over the last several weeks, going 2-2 with wins against Arizona and Carolina. Unfortunately for Minnesota, its two most recent losses came against NFC North rivals Chicago and Green Bay.
Tonight the Vikings get another crack at the Packers and their first divisional win of the season. The first meeting between the two clubs, an October 23rd clash at the Metrodome, was more tightly contested than most anticipated as Minnesota, a +9.5 home dog, fell 33-27 to Green Bay.
The Vikings offense had big day, posting 22 first downs and 435 total yards as Adrian Peterson ran roughshod over the Packers 30th ranked defense (399.6 yards per game allowed). Peterson finished the game with 175 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries; however, rookie quarterback Christian Ponder, who was sacked two times, failed to match his backfield mate. Ponder completed just 13-of-32 passes for 219 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in the six point loss.
Conversely, the Packers Aaron Rodgers, who is 5-3 in eight starts against Minnesota with a 112.7 quarterback rating, connected on 24 of his 30 pass attempts for 335 yards and three touchdowns. Despite converting just 2-of-8 on third down, Green Bay amassed 25 first downs and 421 yards in the victory.
Rodgers' mastery should continue tonight as the Packers look to improve to 9-0 on the season and record their ninth win in their last 12 meetings with the Vikings. Green Bay, which defeated the Chargers 45-38 in San Diego last weekend, is 3-0 at home this year where it defeated the Saints, Broncos, and Rams by an average of 18.3 points per game.
