NFL Odds Week 11

NFL Odds Week 11: Books combating bettors, ah yes, the weekly tug-of-war known as the line move. This week book makers have been busy on a handful of games, including Sunday's matchups between Seattle/St. Louis, Tennessee/Atlanta, and Philadelphia/New York, with bettors going heavy on one side in each of those battles. At least two games have featured big swings, one for obvious reasons and the other for reasons less clear.

Philadelphia Eagles vs New York GiantsNFL Odds Week 11 (-6): This game opened at three points, but jumped all the way to six on news that Michael Vick and Jeremy Maclin would, more than likely, be forced to sit. Starting in Vick's place will be Vince Young, who has thrown just one pass all season long. Despite Young's limited work, bettors may be going the wrong way by dumping money on New York. Granted, the Eagles have been a huge disappointment thus far, but they have yet to find themselves in a dog role. And Young's presence, if only temporary, may actually be a good thing for Philly's offense. Perhaps with Young under center Andy Reid will rely more on LeSean McCoy and a ground game that has churned out an average of 5.8 yards per carry. The Giants have not exactly been world beaters at home either. New York does own a 3-1 record at MetLife Stadium, but it barely slipped past the Bills and Dolphins and its early season Monday night meeting with the Rams was closer than the 28-16 score would indicate. I said early on I liked the Eagles against the number in this game, now I really like them, even with the injuries.

Seattle Seahawks vs St. Louis Rams (-3): Only two things can explain the two point shift as Seattle, despite its poor record, has looked slightly more capable than St. Louis for the better part of the season. The first reason probably centers on the Seahawks horrific road play. Pete Carroll's crew did score a stunning, but nonetheless fluky win at MetLife Stadium against the Giants; however, they are 0-4 in their other away outings, losing by an average of 13.3 points. The second rationale has to do with the Rams recent surge. St. Louis has won two of its last three games and it nearly made it three in a row, but an overtime punt return by the Cardinals Patrick Peterson foiled a would be victory at Arizona. Still, it is difficult to have confidence in either one of these teams considering neither of them has won back-to-back games this season. Seattle has been far better against the spread, though, going 6-3 opposite the number while the Rams are just 2-7 in their efforts to cover.
