The Redskins looked like a possible NFC
East title contender early on, posting a 3-1 record with wins over the Giants, Cardinals, and Rams, but those days hardly seem real at this juncture. Washington, a loser of six straight could make a strong a case as the league's worst team were it not for the Indianapolis Colts.
The Redskins' defense has held up its end of the bargain, for the most part, limiting teams to modest totals of 338.7 yards and 20.5 points per games; however, Mike Shanhan's offense has been utterly pathetic.
Washington is averaging just 313 yards and 16 points per game for the season, and those numbers look good compared to what the team has done of late. Despite posting 24 points in last weeks 27-24 overtime loss to the Cowboys, the Redskins are averaging 12.8 points per game during their current losing streak.
That number doesn't figure to get a whole lot better today at CenturyLink Field. Seattle, which enters this game off back-to-back wins, will not be mistaken for a defensive juggernaut anytime soon, but they do play well on that side of the ball as evidenced by the 333 yards per game they are giving up.
The Seahawks have played particularly well in recent weeks, holding their last five opponents to an average of 17.4 points per game and that number includes a 34 point outburst from the Bengals in Seattle.
So, while neither of these teams bring a positive 'wow' factor to the table, at least Seattle is starting to look like a semi-respectable football team. The same cannot be said for Washington, which appears destined to chase Shanahan from the sidelines.
