New England, which owns a two game lead over the second place Jets in the AFC
East, can tighten its grip on the division lead even more this afternoon with a win over the up and down Eagles. If the Patriots are able to knock off Philadelphia, it would mark their third consecutive victory and signal that their two game post-bye skid was a mere hiccup.
New England may have already done the latter after scoring decisive wins over the Jets and Chiefs the past two weekends. The Patriots routed New York 37-16 at MetLife Stadium and they blasted the injury riddled Chiefs 34-3 at Gillette Stadium on Monday night.
Philadelphia, which looked solid on defense in last Sunday's 17-10 upset of the Giants in New York, may have an opportunity to do something today, though. New England has looked vulnerable on the road, at times, losing 34-31 at Buffalo and 25-17 at Pittsburgh.
However, the Eagles have been anything but world beaters at home, even with a healthy lineup. Philly has notched just one victory in front of the home fans this season, a stunning 34-7 week eight route of the Cowboys, and it has dropped its other four contests there by an average of six points per game.
It would appear Vince Young will step in under center again today with Michael Vick still nursing a rib injury. Young threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns last weekend against the Giants, but he also threw three interceptions. If Young is that sloppy with the football against the opportunistic Patriots, an Eagles loss is all but a certainty.
