Seattle's Thursday night romp over the 
Eagles prevented San Francisco from being able to officially wrap up the NFC West this afternoon; however, the Niners can put the Seahawks in an unenviable position should they beat the Rams. If, indeed, Jim Harbaugh's troops find a way to thwart St. Louis, Seattle would need to win out and San Francisco would need to lose the remainder of its games in order for the Seahawks to retain their division title.
Well, we all know that's not happening, just like we know the Rams are not going to beat the Niners today. San Francisco is coming off its first loss since week two, but it was put in a near impossible situation by the schedule makers. The Niners were asked to fly across the country on short rest and were saddled with the task of beating a team, Baltimore, that had not lost a home game all season.
So, no one is reading anything into San Francisco's 16-6 slip up at M&T Bank Stadium. Are the Rams capable of beating the 49ers? Sure, they knocked off the Saints 31-21 at the Edward Jones Dome earlier this season, but San Francisco would need to produce the same sort of 'we got this' effort that New Orleans did on that particular day. That would be out-of-character for Harbaugh and this team, though.
The Niners haven't looked like world beaters week-in and week-out, but their effort has been above reproach and so have their results, the majority of the time anyway. San Francisco, aside from an overtime loss to the Cowboys at Candlestick, has been dominant at home too, beating visitors by an average of 18.8 points per game.
