Oregon vs Auburn Odds 2010 BCS Opening Lines: The mess that is the BCS finally sorted itself out this weekend with Oregon winning the Civil War battle against Oregon State 37-20 and Auburn thrashing South Carolina 56-17 in the SEC Championship Game. The two teams, which went into the weekend ranked one and two in the BCS Standings, will now prepare for a head to head meeting at the Tostitos BCS National Championship Game on January 10th in Glendale, Arizona. 2010 BCS Opening Lines at online bookmaker BetUS.com have Auburn listed as a -3 against the spread favorite in the matchup between the two undefeated squads.
It is the matchup no one envisioned at the
start of the season, but many expected toward the end of it. Oregon, which won the Pac 10 last year, was expected to repeat as conference champion this year, but with Jeremiah Masoli off the team, few, if any, expected the the Ducks to make it look so easy. Chip Kelly's squad found itself challenged on just two occasions all season long, those being the first half of its game against Stanford, when it trailed 21-3 in the first quarter, and at Cal, where it eeked out a 15-13 win.
The Ducks perfect run featured nine conference wins by an average of 21.7 points per game, including four at Autzen Stadium, where they averaged 53.3 points per game against Pac 10 opposition. For the season Oregon averaged an FBS best 49.3 points per game as well as a staggering 537.5 yards per contest, a tally second only to Oklahoma State's 537.6 per outing.
Auburn, which posted an 8-5 record last season in Gene Chizek's first year with the school, was expected to be an improved team this year; however, absolutely no one saw the Tigers dethroning their hated rival Alabama in the SEC West.
Auburn proved to be more resilient than any team in the nation, though, repeatedly escaping disaster as evidenced by its six come from behind victories. The Tigers, led by Heisman contender Cam Newton, showed the heart of a champion, especially in their regular season finale against the Crimson Tide. Auburn trailed 'Bama by as many as 24 points in the first half at Tuscaloosa, but outpaced the Tide 21-3 in the second half to preserve its national title hopes.
Both Auburn and Oregon are offensive oriented teams, a fact that has many anticipating a high scoring affair come January 10th. However, with over a month of practice time and a season's worth of tape to watch, both Chizek and Kelly may find a way to slow down what the other does best. Conversely, the two offensive masterminds have over 30 days to add some new wrinkles that will, no doubt, catch the opposing defense flat footed. Either way, it should be an epic showdown in Glendale.
