Through eight games, the Giants looked
like the team to beat in the NFC East. New York compiled an impressive 6-2 record to start the season, but it has since fallen and done so in a big way.
Last weekend marked the Giants fourth consecutive loss as they fell 38-35 at home to the Green Bay Packers. While the setback represented a huge improvement over a sloppy 24-49 loss at New Orleans the previous Monday, it still counted against Tom Coughlin's reeling squad.
Despite the major slide, the Giants still have a great shot at capturing the NFC East crown. They trail the Cowboys, who they will face twice over the next four weeks, by just one game in the standings and fellow NFC East foes Washington and Philadelphia represent no threat to either Dallas or New York.
Dallas assumed control of the division lead with a four game win streak that stretched from November 6th through the 24th. The Pokes knocked off Seattle, Buffalo, Washington, and Miami by an average of 12.8 points per game in passing the Giants.
Dallas, however, kept it a close two-horse race last weekend by falling on the road 19-13 in overtime to an inferior Arizona team. The loss was marked by more questionable decision making from Head Coach Jason Garrett, which probably means more than just Coughlin is on the hot seat tonight.
It is safe to conclude that whichever team loses this evening's game will probably not win the division and that team will, most likely, have a new front man next season. Coughlin is a master at working under pressure and he has also been pretty good at turning back the Cowboys of late (Giants 4-2 in their last six games with Dallas); expect him to do both tonight.
