2011 NFL Schedule Week 15 & Odds: There is still much to be determined after another week of NFL action, but this much is certain: the Packers are the clear favorite to win Super Bowl XLVI, Denver is stealing Green Bay’s undefeated thunder, and the Raiders are the most unpredictable team in football. Week 15 will not change many things on those fronts, but it could alter the playoff landscape, which presently features no fewer than 19 contenders.
The “are they for real” line of the week: New England Patriots vs Denver Broncos (+6)
Denver has done enough to prove they are a quality team, but now the question looms…are they a postseason threat? This weekend’s game against the Patriots will go a long way toward answering that question. New England’s offense represents the biggest threat to the Broncos ever improving defense since Tim Tebow took over under center, and it could put Denver in just the type of situation it is not made to handle. The Broncos ball control, keep things close style does not play well if they are in a large hole. So, it will be interesting to see what happens if the Pats are able to secure a double digit lead early in the game.
The “barking dog” line of the week: New York Jets vs Philadelphia Eagles (-3)
The Jets have not been a road power this season, going 2-4 away from home, but this line makes no sense. The Eagles have proven time and again that they cannot be trusted, particularly in a favorite role. Philadelphia is 1-5 both straight up and against the spread at home this season, why would anyone make them a favorite against a team that has won three games in a row and ranks sixth in the league in total defense?
The “rebound” line of the week: Pittsburgh Steelers vs San Francisco 49ers (NA)
A line has not yet been released on this game, but I like the 49ers to bounce back from yesterday’s loss to the Cardinals. Granted, rebounding against the Steelers is no easy task, but San Francisco has been outstanding at home this season and they are now in a dog fight with the Saints for the No. 2 seed in the NFC Playoffs. Jim Harbaugh will have his team ready to roll and the 49ers home crowd should be equally amped for this Monday night slugfest.
