The 2011-12 College Football Bowl Season gets underway this Saturday (Dec. 17) with three games starting with the New Mexico Bowl (2 p.m. ET) a match-up of Temple of the Mid-America Conference and Wyoming of the Mountain West Conference. At 5:30 p.m. the Idaho Potato Bowl, formerly Humanitarian Bowl, has matched up Utah State, runner up in the Western Athletic Conference with Ohio of the MAC. The first bowl day ends with the New Orleans Bowl (9 p.m. ET), a game matching Sun Belt Conference runner up Louisiana-Lafayette with San Diego State of the MWC. All three of Saturday’s games will be televised by ESPN.
The Temple Owls are 7-chalk favorites in the New Mexico Bowl with a combined score total of 49 1/2. Cowboys backers are getting +225 on the offshore money line while the price of a SU wager on Temple is -265. Up in Boise, Idaho, the Aggies of Utah State get the favorites tag in the Idaho Potato Bowl, installed favorites by -1 1/2-points with a combined score total of 58. The Bobcats are getting EVEN (+100) money line odds while the Aggies are priced at -120. San Diego State is lined 4 1/2-chalk favorites over the Ragin Cajuns with the totals betting open at 49 1/2. ULL backers are getting +175 ML while the Aztecs are priced ML favorites giving -205.
Temple went 8-4 overall and finished second behind Ohio in the MAC with a 5-3 league mark. Wyoming placed third in the MWC, behind TCU and Boise State, with a 5-2 conference record while going 8-4 for the season. Against the point-spread, the Owls covered in 8-of-12 games mirroring their SU record. The combined score fell under the posted total in 7-of-12 games but went over four straight times to end the season. Wyoming finished the regular season with a 8-4 record while covering ATS in 7-of-12. Totals bettors cashed in 8-of-12 on the combined score under.
Utah State, who finished the regular season at 7-4, split its 12 games ATS going 6-6 while the total went over in 7-of-12. Their opponent Ohio, won the MAC outright going 9-4 on the year, counting a win in the MAC Championship Game. The total also cleared the total in 7-of-13.
San Diego State managed a fourth place finish in the MWC behind TCU, Boise State and Wyoming, going 4-3 in league play and 8-4 overall. ULL completed the regular season with an 8-4 SU record while finishing third in the Sun Belt with a 6-2 league mark. The Ragin’ Cajuns were consistent covering the point-spread cashing in 8-of-11 lined games while the combined score total went over the number in 7-of-11. The Aztecs failed to cover ATS most of the time going 4-7 against the number on the year. The total fell under in 6-of-11 games.
