seahawks marshawn lynchThe red hot Seahawks will attempt to clip the reeling Bears this Sunday when the two NFC Squads butt heads in Chicago. The Seahawks are still a playoff long shot at this juncture, but if they continue to play like they have over the last five weeks, who knows what may happen. Seattle, currently the ninth seed in the NFC overall standings with a 6-7 record, won for the fourth time in its last five games on Monday night, thumping division rival St. Louis 30-13 at CenturyLink Field.

The Seahawks dominated the injury riddled Rams as they finished the night with 21 first downs and 359 total yards. Running back Marshawn Lynch’s hot streak continued in the victory; the man known as “Beast Mode” topped the century mark for the fifth time in the last six weeks with a 23 carry, 115 yard effort. Seattle’s defense held St. Louis’ punch-less offense to 281 yards and 3-for-14 on third down.

Seattle draws another anemic offensive attack this weekend in the Jay Cutler-less Bears. Chicago, which looked like a postseason lock prior to Cutler’s hand injury, dropped its third straight game over the weekend with a 13-10 overtime loss to the Broncos in Denver. While Tim Tebow’s late game heroics drew most of the press after the game, it was the Broncos’ stout defense that dealt a major blow to the Bears playoff hopes.

Denver limited Chicago to 12 first downs and 245 yards as quarterback Caleb Hanie failed to compliment a solid showing on the ground (159 yards on 38 carries). Hanie finished the day 12-of-19  for 115 yards.

Chicago’s floundering offense will not find the going any easier on Sunday given the play of Seattle’s defense over the past several weeks. The Seahawks, which rank 13th in the league in yards per game allowed (335.2), have limited their last five opponents to an average of 14.8 points per game.

NFL Predictions Betting Trend: The Bears are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games as a home favorite with a total between 33 and 36.5.
