packers rodgers sackedWell, now that that is over with, the Green Bay Packers can focus on the more important task at hand, which is wrapping up the No.1 seed in the NFC Playoffs. Aaron Rodgers and company can do just that this evening when they take on hated rival Chicago in a Christmas nightcap at Lambeau Field. Tonight’s game, which features Green Bay as a -13 against the spread home favorite, is scheduled to get underway at 8:20pm ET on NBC. Need some help with your Sunday Night Football Predictions? Most people felt if the Packers were going to fall they would have done at San Diego or maybe in Detroit or New York (Giants), once those hurdles were cleared, though, a perfect season looked inevitable with the team playing three of its final four at Lambeau. Green Bay’s lone road game in its final stretch seemed a mere formality as it took place in Kansas City against the offensively inept Chiefs.

Kansas City turned expectations upside down, however, stunning the Packers 19-14 on the strength of a brilliant defensive effort. Green Bay managed just 16 first downs and 315 total yards while Rodgers completed 17-of-35 passes for 235 yards and one touchdown. The Chiefs also had a banner day offensively against the Packers suspect defense, tallying 23 first downs and 438 yards with former Bear and Bronco Kyle Orton under center.

Perhaps Chicago’s beleaguered offense with find hope in the Chiefs performance. The Bears, which have fallen off a cliff since losing Jay Cutler to a broken hand, elected to make their own switch at quarterback as Caleb Hanie presided over a four game losing streak. Veteran journeyman Josh McCown, who has thrown just eight passes since the beginning of the 2009 season, is slated to replace Hanie under center tonight.

Chicago’s defense has played reasonably well over the last four weeks, the exception being last week’s 38-14 home loss to the Seahawks. For all its successes, though, it has been unable to overcome the offense. Despite Green Bay’s defensive woes, that appears to be the script this evening. The Packers offense has been a major force all season long, but it has been particularly dangerous at Lambeau where Green Bay is averaging 40.2 points per game.

Sunday Night Football Betting Trend: The Under is 9-1 in the Bears last 10 games as a road dog with a total between 41.5 and 44.
