The Seattle Seahawks are in Tampa Bay this afternoon trying to preserve their shot at the NFC West title as they take on the Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium. Today's NFC showdown is scheduled to kickoff at 4:15pm ET on FOX. Seattle lost for the fourth time in the last
five weeks last Sunday, falling 34-18 at home to the NFC leading Atlanta Falcons. Amazingly, the setback did nothing to effect the Seahawks standing in the NFC West. Pete Carroll's squad remains tied for first in the division with St. Louis at 6-8 and, should it win today, it can lock up a postseason berth with a win over the Rams next weekend at Qwest Field.
The Seahawks play of late would suggest their playoff hopes are in serious jeopardy, though. Seattle has been dreadful on the road most of the season, and in its last two away games the hosting opposition (San Francisco and New Orleans) combined for 74 points.
Tampa Bay also comes into today's game with its playoff aspirations hanging by a thread. The Buccaneers lost at home to Detroit last Sunday to fall to 8-6 overall. Tampa Bay sits eighth in the NFC standings as a result of the overtime stunner and needs to win out and have the Giants lose out and the Packers split their final two games in order to reach the playoffs as the sixth seed.
That seems like a tall order, especially considering the Bucs finish up at New Orleans next weekend. However, Tampa Bay should stay in the hunt for at least one more week, despite its 3-4 record at Raymond James Stadium.
