NFL Week 17 Picks

by Matt Foust on Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Sunday's action did much to clear up the playoff picture in the AFC, finalizing all but one spot; however, heading into the final week of the season, the NFC is still has two spots open and a plethora of seeding possibilities. Despite the fact that not a single team in the NFC West has a winning record, this weekend's biggest game is, without question, the Rams and Seahawks at Qwest Field. That NFL Week 17 Picks battle will decide the division and confirm the fourth seed in the NFC playoffs.

St. Louis Rams vs Seattle Seahawks NFL Week 17 Picks(+2.5): The Rams, while no juggernaut, come into this game favored by two and half points, and for good reason. Seattle has been one of the worst teams in the league over the last six weeks, going 1-5 with its only win coming against the lowly Panthers. The Seahawks have also lost their mojo at home, where they were 3-0 with wins San Francisco, San Diego, and Arizona through the first seven weeks of the season. Seattle has lost three of its last four at Qwest Field, falling to the Giants, Chiefs, and Falcons by an average of 22.7 points per game. Conversely, the Rams have played better on the road of late. St. Louis has won two of its last three away from home, beating sub-par teams in Denver and Arizona.

Tennessee Titans vs Indianapolis Colts (-9.5): The Colts postseason hopes appeared to be in serious jeopardy after three consecutive losses dropped their record to 6-6. Indy trailed the Jaguars in the AFC South at that point and had to play two of its final four on the road where it had gone 2-4 in six attempts. All that has changed, though, with the Colts coasting into Sunday's meeting with Tennessee on a three game win streak. It seems almost a certainty that Peyton Manning and company will win the South and secure a ninth consecutive postseason berth. Indianapolis has won six of its last seven at home versus Tennessee, and all indications are that the Titans have already closed the book on this season. A Colts win and a Kansas City loss to Oakland would give Indy the third seed in the AFC and, most likely, a home game against the Jets in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Should the Colts, Chiefs, and Steelers all win this weekend, Indy would host Baltimore in a Wild Card game.
