Tulsa vs BYU 2011 Armed Forces Bowl Picks

by Reno Gold on Friday, December 30th, 2011

Armed Forces BowlBYU vs. Tulsa 2011 Armed Forces Bowl Predictions: The Tulsa University Golden Hurricane and BYU Cougars are set to battle Friday afternoon (12:05  pm ET) in the 2011 Bell Helicopters Armed Forces Bowl at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. BYU went 9-3 SU on the year while Tulsa played to a 8-4 regular season record. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Odds makers expect the game to be a close one, lining Tulsa as -1 point favorite ATS and priced at -120 on the offshore College Football Odds money line. Cougars backers are getting even juice (+100) to win SU. The games combined score total is holding at 56 1/2.

Tulsa and BYU practically mirror each other in many ways. Their combined seven losses were all to good football teams; Texas, Utah and TCU for the Cougars while Tulsa’s losses were to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Boise State and Houston. All of TU’s losses came at the hands of schools who were in the Top-10 at one time or another.

BYU has demonstrated the ability to play defense consistently. I think with the emergence of their quarterback in the last two thirds of the season they really began to take on a little more identity offensively. But even with that, much like Tulsa, are really balanced on offense. Tulsa is ranked No. 23 in NCAA FBS averaging 454.4 yards per game; compared to BYU, ranked No. 41, with a 410.8 yard average. The Cougars real strength is in defense, ranked 16th in the NCAA FBS allowing an average of 316.8 yards per game. Defense was not good for the Golden Hurricane, ranked 89th with an average yield of 420 yards.

College Football Pick – The better defensive team will win the game. My pick – BYU  +1.

College Football Picks 2011-12 Bowl Record – 9 wins 5 losses 0 push.
