The NFL Draft always provides a great deal of intrigue for football fans, and, fortunately for those who like to have more than a rooting interest, it also offers an ample amount of wagering opportunities. This year’s draft, which will get underway at 8:00pm ET tonight at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City, is no different with the odds makers at Bovada.lv serving up a host of NFL Draft Prop Bets. Among the latest NFL Odds at the bookmaker is the Under 3.5 quarterbacks going in the First Round being favored at -170 moneyline odds.

Here are a few NFL Draft Prop Bets that I see as potential moneymakers:

How any QB’s will be selected in the First Round? Under 3.5 (+130) or Over 3.5 (+130)

Yes, this is a gamble, but I’m going to roll with four here. We all know Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III are coming off the board first, and it seems reasonable to expect Miami to grab Rayn Tannehill at eight. I think another quarterback hungry team, which is quite a long list, will grab Oklahoma State’s Brandon Weeden before the first round is completed.

Which team will make the 3rd overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft? Minnesota Vikings (-350) or Any Other Team (+225)

It is no secret the Vikings are willing to trade down should they find a suitable dancing partner. All signs point toward the Bills being a team willing to trade into the three spot. Buffalo is desperate to grab USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil in an effort to give quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick better protection. With that desire now public, wagering with a potential +225 return is certainly tempting.

Who will be drafted first? Morris Claiborne (-400) or Justin Blackmon (+250)

Most pundits have Claiborne going to the Vikings at three, but, if what I proposed in the above paragraph comes to fruition, Minnesota will not be picking at three. Certainly corners are always at a premium, but there is no glaring need at the position (except maybe Tampa Bay and, of course, Minnesota) for team’s picking inside the top five. I think Claiborne will slide a bit as a result and Blackmon will be selected at six by the Rams. Worth a potential +250? You decide.

The first round, which is scheduled to begin at 8:00pm ET on the NFL Network, will conclude on Thursday while rounds two and three take place on Friday. The final rounds of the draft, rounds four through seven, will happen on Saturday, April 28th beginning at 12:00pm ET. It is almost guaranteed at this point that Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III will go one and two tomorrow night, but after that things should get interesting. According to the latest NFL Odds, USC offensive tackle Matt Kalil is favored at -250 moneyline odds to go third overall to the Minnesota Vikings.

To make any sort of meaningful top 10 draft predictions team needs must be the first consideration. So, with Indianapolis and Washington already set on Luck and Griffin, the evaluation process must begin with Minnesota at three before moving onto Cleveland, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, Jacksonville, Miami, Carolina, and Buffalo.

No. 3 Minnesota Vikings (3-13): When a team finishes 3-13 the needs are pretty glaring and usually at multiple positions. The Vikings ranked 31st in points per game allowed (28.1) and they gave up 251.2 pass yards per game despite producing 50 sacks. Given those numbers cornerback seems a realistic option; however, offensive line help is a need as well. Minnesota gave up 49 sacks on the season and never found a suitable replacement for Bryant McKinnie. Prediction: Matt Kalil.

No. 4 Cleveland Browns (4-12): It is no secret the Browns tried unsuccessfully to trade with St. Louis to move into the two spot. That is certainly an indication that general manager Mike Holmgren is not totally pleased with quarterback Colt McCoy, but most pundits believe the Browns will pass on a quarterback at No. 4. The general consensus has Cleveland selecting an offensive playmaker at another position to help bolster a unit that ranked 28th in rush yards per game and (95.7) and 30th in scoring (13.6 ppg). Prediction: Trent Richardson.

No. 5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-12): The Bucs, like the Browns, could be a candidate to trade down, but if they do stay at five there are a number of players on the board at that position capable of filling a hole. Tampa Bay will probably move to improve a defense that ranked 30th in the league in yards per game allowed (394.4) and since it has invested so heavily along the defensive line the last two drafts, a linebacker or corner seems like a logical pick. The Bucs ranked dead last in the NFL in rush yards per game allowed at 156.1, which gives every indication this team needs some help in the front seven. Prediction: Luke Kuechly.

No. 6 St. Louis Rams (2-14): The Rams, obviously, feel Sam Bradford can rebound from a difficult sophomore campaign hence the team’s trading down to No. 6. Bradford desperately needs some help, though, both upfront and outside. Should Matt Kalil slide this far St. Louis would probably grab him, but that seems unlikely. So, the more logical choice would have the team taking a difference making receiver, an area where it is sorely lacking. Prediction: Justin Blackmon.

No. 7 Jacksonville Jaguars (5-11): Jacksonville fielded one of the better defenses in the league last season, ranking sixth and 11th in yards and points per game allowed respectively, but the offense played at a small college level. Despite a disastrous rookie season from quarterback Blaine Gabbert, Jaguars brass has indicated they will give him more time to develop. Like St. Louis, Jacksonville is lacking difference makers on the outside, which makes receiver a strong possibility here as well. Prediction: Michael Floyd.

No. 8 Miami Dolphins (6-10): Miami spent the entire off-season trying to land a quarterback in spite of some solid numbers from Matt Moore. The Dolphins may finally get there man here, though, even if they have to reach to do it. Prediction: Ryan Tannehill.

No. 9 Carolina Panthers (6-10): Carolina got gashed by the run and pass last season, a development which counteracted the team’s surprisingly good offensive numbers. With most of the defensive draft talent along the defensive line and in the secondary, it seems like Carolina may go for a lineman or cornerback here. Some pundits have the team grabbing Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe, but Poe’s lack of production at the collegiate level makes him somewhat suspect. Prediction: Morris Claiborne.

No. 10 Buffalo Bills (6-10): The Bills could go any direction as they need help on both sides of the ball; however, with the high flying Patriots still ruling the division, defense is probably the proper course to chart. Buffalo has solid corners in place but the safety position could use an upgrade as could the defensive line (29 sacks). Prediction: Mark Barron.

This week’s NFL Combine, which is scheduled to get underway tomorrow in Indianapolis and wrap up on February 28th, has grabbed the attention of football fans everywhere as they look to examine the next crop of draft day talent. The annual event features some of the nation’s top collegiate players being measured in skills and strength drills such as the 40 yard dash, vertical leap, and bench press. The NFL Odds makers at Bovada.lv are giving fans an opportunity to wager on the 2012 NFL Combine, pitting this year’s group, which includes the likes of Justin Blackmon, Trent Richardson, LaMichael James, and Quinton Coples, against some great historical markers.

2012 NFL Combine Prop Bets: Provided by Bovada.lv

2012 NFL Combine: Fastest 40 yard dash time -

Over 4.30 seconds (+100)
Under 4.30 seconds (-140)

Cracking the 4.30 mark is an incredible feat, but there are some players in this year’s crop capable of coming in under that mark. The strongest candidates include Florida’s Chris Rainey, Oregon’s LaMichael James, Baylor’s Kendall Wright, Virginia Tech’s David Wilson, and Arkansas’ Joe Adams and Jarius Wright. It is unlikely, though, that anyone will best the 4.24 time that Chris Johnson recorded at the 2008 combine.

2012 NFL Combine: Highest vertical leap -

Over 42.5″ (-120)
Under 42.5″ (-120)

The combine record was set in 2005 when North Carolina’s Gerald Sensabaugh recorded a 46′ vertical leap. Perhaps Justin Blackmon may challenge that number but it seems improbable. In fact, if last year’s results are any indication, topping the 42.5″ mark may be difficult. Curtis Brown’s 39.5″ leap at the 2011 NFL Combine was an inch better than the rest of the field.

2012 NFL Combine: Most Bench Press Repetitions -

Over 43.5 (-140)
Under 43.5 (+110)

The record for this event was set in 1999 Eastern Kentucky defensive tackle Justin Ernest cranked out 51 reps with the standard 225lbs. weight. While breaking that mark seems unlikely, there are a few players that could power past the 43.5 rep mark, including Michigan’s Mike Martin, Penn State’s Devon Still, and Alabama’s Josh Chapman.

The favorite to win the Lombardi next year is none other than Super Bowl XLV winner Green Bay at 6 to 1 odds. The favorite out of the AFC is yesterday’s loser, New England, at 7 to 1 odds.

The ticker-tape has yet to be cleaned up from yesterday’s championship celebration in Indianapolis, but somehow the Giants are still in an underdog role of sorts with three NFC teams favored to beat them out in the race to win Super Bowl XLVII. While New York, which figures to be right in the thick of things next year, may take offense, it probably should not.

There have been a number of repeat Super Bowl winners but it is by no means common for a team to win back-to-back championships. Only eight times in the 46 year history of the Super Bowl has a team repeated and the last club to do it was the Tom Brady led Patriots in 2004 and 2005.

The Giants would seemingly have the makings to win it all next season, though, as Eli Manning and a majority of the team’s top performers, including Justin Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul, Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Kenny Phillips, all return. And while a back-to-back title would defy the odds, New York, especially at 15 to 1 odds, is worth a long look.

However, the Packers, the favorite to win Super Bowl XLVI, should provide some stiff competition for the likes of New York, New England, and New Orleans. Green Bay nearly put together a perfect regular season, but its mistake laden divisional round playoff loss to the Giants ended what many believed would be an inevitable run to Lucas Oil Stadium. With Aaron Rodgers still throwing the ball for Green Bay, the Packers will have an opportunity to make amends for that setback and potentially bring another Lombardi back to Wisconsin.

Much to the chagrin of the odds makers, New York, which seemed to have the most backing from the pundits, prevailed 21-17 to win its fourth Lombardi Trophy. Depending on when one got in on the action, the Giants could be had at anywhere from +3 to +2.5 points. 2012 Super Bowl Results Payouts also rewarded those who backed the Under as the game did not finish anywhere near the posted total of 54 points.

2012 Super Bowl Results Payouts:

Winning Side: New York +2.5 to +3 points

The Giants opened as a +3 dog, a number which returned as much as +115 in some cases (Bovada.lv), but that number had gone down to +2.5 yesterday with a -105 attached to it (SBG Global). So if someone jumped on the Giants early, they would have won $115 for every $100 wagered; a late play (-105) would have resulted in a $100 return for every $100 wagered. Those backing the Patriots at -2.5 points (the late line yesterday) would have lost $115 for every $100 wagered (-115).

Moneyline Win: New York +110 to +135

Those who splurged on a straight up Giants victory were rewarded with anywhere from a $110 to $135 return on every $100 wagered. Of course, the early action is always better (if you are on the right side) as a +135 line was no where to be found yesterday. Moneyline Patriots backers lost anywhere from $130 to $140 on every $100 they wagered on a straight up New England win.

Winning Total: Under 55 to 54 Points

The total, in most every case, featured the standard -110 line. In other words, individuals playing the Under won $100 for every $100 wagered while those siding with the Over lost $110 for every $100 wagered.

Throughout the week I provided a number of recommendations on everything from the winning side to some obscure prop bets. Here’s how I fared in my predictions:

Wins - 10 for a return of $1030 (based upon $100 wager scale)

Side: Giants +3 (+115) Giants won by four points
Total: Under 54 Points (-110) Game resulted in 38 points
New England Team Total: Under 29.5 Points (-110) The Patriots scored just 17 points
Will the Giants convert a 4th Down: No (-200) The Giants did not go for it on fourth down
Will the Patriots convert a 4th Down: Yes (+105) New England converted on its lone fourth down attempt
First team to kickoff will be: New England (-260) Patriots snapped an NFC streak of 14 consecutive coin toss victories but elected to kickoff
Team to get the first 1st Down of the game: New York (-200) Giants recorded four first downs on their opening drive
New England first TD of the game: TD Pass (-220) Brady connected with Danny Woodhead on a four yard pass
Total TD Passes – Tom Brady: Under 2.5 (+110) Brady threw two touchdown passes (Woodhead, Aaron Hernandez)
Total TD Passes – Eli Manning: Under 2.5 (-175) Manning threw one touchdown pass (Victor Cruz)

Losses - four for a loss of $520 (based upon a $100 wager scale)

Will either team score three unanswered times: No (+135) Both teams scored three unanswered times
Will the opening kickoff result in a touchback: Yes (-190) Opening kick returned to the 23 yard line
Total pass attempts – Tom Brady: Under 39.5 (-115) Brady threw 41 passes
Total pass attempts – Eli Manning: Under 39.5 (-115) Manning threw 40 passes

Super Bowl XLVI, which will be broadcast live on NBC, is scheduled to kickoff at 6:29pm ET at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium. The latest Giants vs Patriots Odds have New England listed as a -2.5 against the spread favorite and the game total set at 54 points.

New England and New York arrived in Indianapolis by wildly divergent paths, but they are both here nonetheless and ready to do battle. The Giants were the last team to officially punch a post-season ticket as they needed a win over Dallas to secure the NFC East and a spot in the playoffs. The Patriots, on the other hand, went in as the AFC’s top seed after producing a 13-3 regular season record.

New England played two home playoff games in route to the Super Bowl while New York hosted a Wild Card contest before hitting the road to face two of the league’s best teams, Green Bay and San Francisco. Both clubs were tested in their respective conference championship games, though, as the Pats barely slipped by a tough Ravens team and the Giants needed overtime to turn back the 49ers.

Everyone knows the strength and weaknesses here, they have been discussed all week. And most pundits believe New York to be the more well-rounded team at this juncture. The Giants have some holes, but they are small ones as their once porous defense has played like a top five unit down the stretch. New England is viewed more as a high powered offense with a bend, don’t break type defense that does just enough to help keep the Patriots out of the loss column.

New York, strangely, has talked an inordinate amount of trash coming into this game, something that did not take place four years ago. The Giants embraced the underdog role given to them by the odds makers but they have acted as though tonight’s result is a foregone conclusion. New England has been quite, though, keeping to its low key script while hoping to silence the chatty Giants on the field this evening.

All the talking will disappear once the ball is in the air and the G-Men, for all their bluster and talk of being under appreciated and under valued, will give New England all it can handle. The Patriots will be game too, though. This is not Tom Brady or Bill Belichick’s first rodeo…they know what this looks and feels like. I suspect Brady will shake off his ugly AFC Championship Game performance and provide a more than worthy adversary for New York’s recently revamped defense.

The bigger question, however, is whether or not the Patriots secondary can stand up to Eli Manning and the Giants host of explosive receivers. We all know there will be some bending going on, but just how much breaking will New England do? Well, if I am correct in my assessments enough to see the Giants hoist a fifth Lombardi Trophy.

We humans are drawn to greatness, attracted to star power, and the winner, typically, has both of those attributes in spades. This year’s Super Bowl MVP race is particularly fascinating, though, because it features three past winners of the award, including Tom Brady and Eli Manning. Not surprisingly those two are the favorites to nab the honor in the latest 2012 Super Bowl MVP Odds with Brady a +150 moneyline play and Manning a +200 option.

Decisions, decisions…having trouble picking a potential MVP winner? Well, the best and most obvious place to start looking is under center. It is simple math really as 24 of the previous 45 Super Bowl MVP winners were quarterbacks. And the game is doing anything but drifting away from that trend with four of the last five MVP awards going to a field general.

This year, however, it really seems like a no-brainer with Brady and Manning in the mix. Brady, after all, is a two time winner of the highly coveted prize and he performed exceptionally well in his four previous Super Bowl appearances, throwing seven touchdowns to one interception while compiling a 94.9 passer rating. Manning, who has been the best quarterback in these playoffs, has also shown well under the brightest of lights, earning Super Bowl XLII MVP honors following his incredibly gutty turn against the Patriots.

Outside of those two, the best choice would seemingly be tight end Rob Gronkowski. While no tight end has ever won a Super Bowl MVP award, Gronkowski has the type of game changing ability to end the position’s extended dry spell. If the second year pro is healthy, you can rest assured that Brady will feed him the ball, creating the opportunity for the big guy to make a huge statement in tonight’s game.

If you are not feeling the Gronkowski love, receiver is the next best option. Wide outs trail only quarterbacks and running backs in MVP honors (six) and both the Pats and Giants feature pass catchers capable of reeling in a new car as well as a trip to Disney World.

This week I have made known my feelings on the side (New York +3), total (Under 54.5), and a variety of prop bets that I feel could cash for those willing to step outside the box. But if you are hungry for more 2012 Super Bowl action, I have another Giants vs Patriots Prediction or two that might work well in a parlay.

Giants vs Patriots Prediction 2012 Super Bowl: Provided by Bovada.lv

Super Bowl XLVI – Will the opening kickoff result in a touchback:

Yes (-190)
No (+155)

Odds are that New England will kickoff as it always defers in the event of a coin toss win, which means the Patriots Stephen Gostkowski will, most likely, be the first player to touch the ball in Super Bowl XLVI. Gostkowski has nine touchbacks in the Pats two playoff games (14 kickoffs) and he figures to record another to get things started in Indy.

Super Bowl XLVI – Team to get the first 1st down of the game:

New York Giants (First 1st Down) -200
New England Patriots (First 1st Down) +160

I’ve mentioned New England’s penchant for deferring, a fact that makes this wager far more predictable. Assuming the Giants get the ball first, it seems probable they will pick up at least one first down in their first possession of Super Bowl XLVI. Nothing is certain, but you can call me shocked if the Pats defense produces a three and out to open the game.

Super Bowl XLVI – New England Patriots first TD of the game:

TD Pass (-220)
Any other TD (+180)

Just playing the percentages here…TD Pass. New England threw 39 touchdown passes this season; it only produced 18 rushing touchdowns, two defensive touchdowns, and one special teams touchdown. Seems like a TD pass is the way to go.

The field generals are always the golden boys of the championship game and this year is no different with arguably the best quarterback to ever suit up, Tom Brady, squaring off against fellow Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. Not surprisingly, Brady and Manning are the subject of numerous 2012 Super Bowl Prop Bets, some of which seem destined to reward the astute pigskin bettor.

Total Passing Attempts – Tom Brady:

Over 39.5 (-115)
Under 39.5 (-115)

Take the Under 39.5 here. While Brady has attempted over 39.5 passes eight times this season, he has only done so one time in the Patriots last nine games. That’s a trend folks and one New England is not likely to deviate from considering it won all nine of those games. Also working in favor of the Under is the probability that this game stays close. It seems doubtful that New England finds itself in a chase position the majority of the game, which would be required for Brady to exceed the 39.5 pass attempt total.

Total TD Passes – Tom Brady:

Over 2.5 (-140)
Under 2.5 (+110)

Sunday will mark Tom Brady’s fifth Super Bowl appearance and while he is known for his brilliance on the biggest of stages, he only exceeded the 2.5 touchdown mark one time in his previous four championship game outings. Brady also has just five touchdown passes in four career meetings with the Giants, putting the odds in favor of the Under 2.5.

Total TD Passes – Eli Manning:

Over 2.5 (+145)
Under 2.5 (-175)

Manning has crested the 2.5 touchdown pass mark two times this post-season, but a third occurrence seems improbable, even against New England’s suspect pass defense. Consider that Manning has thrown over 2.5 touchdown passes just six times in 19 games this season and only twice in 16 career playoff games and I think you will find that the Under, once again, is the reasonable play.

Total Pass Attempts – Eli Manning:

Over 39.5 (-130)
Under 39.5 (+100)

In sticking with my theme, I am going to recommend the Under here as well. Manning went over the 39.5 pass attempt total five times when the Giants went through a 1-5 slump late in the season, but he has done so just once (NFC Championship Game) since their remarkable resurgence. Here’s betting Manning sticks around 33 to 36 pass attempts against the Pats, which is still well above his career playoff average of 19.75 attempts per game.

All sports betting is a guessing game of sorts, but not all plays are created equal as some provide a wonderful opportunity to actually reap a reward while others possess more of a shot-in-the-dark quality. Sure, the occasional dart throw can be entertaining, but it is always more fun to make a profit. Educated guessing, anyone?

Will either team score three unanswered times in the game:

Yes -175
No +135

Both of these offenses are explosive and capable of scoring in bunches which is precisely why the No at +135 odds makes the most sense. It seems unreasonable to think that either defense will completely shut down the two respective offenses. The only way I see three unanswered scores coming to fruition is via the turnover.

Will the Giants convert a fourth down:

Yes +150
No -200

New York was anything but efficient at converting the fourth down in the regular season, hitting on just four of its 13 attempts and it has only gone for it on fourth down two times (1-for-2) in these playoffs. While the odds are not the best, here’s betting the Giants either do not go for it of fourth down or are unsuccessful in converting a fourth down attempt.

Will the Patriots convert a fourth down:

Yes +105
No -135

In closer games Bill Belichick is not afraid to gamble a bit, especially if he feels a fourth down conversion might be the difference between winning and losing. New England did quite well on fourth down during the regular season, converting on seven of its 11 attempts (64 percent) and it is 1-for-1 in the post-season with a successful conversion against the Ravens in the AFC Championship.

First team to kickoff will be:

Giants +200
Patriots -260

If the Patriots win the coin toss, we know they will defer as they have with every winning toss since Tom Brady injured his knee in the 2008 season opener against Kansas City. There is always the chance that New York wins and defers, but that seems unlikely. Yes, the odds are kind of steep, but the chances of New England kicking off first are extremely high.
