2011 AL West Odds Opening Lines

by Matt Foust on Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

The Texas Rangers ended the Angels three year reign atop the American League West last season after finishing in first with a 90-72 record. 2011 AL West Odds Opening Lines are expecting more of the same next season with Texas presently listed as a +120 moneyline favorite to retain its title.

Texas Rangers (+120): The Rangers 2011 AL West Odds Opening Linesmade a stong push to retain Cliff Lee, but lost out to the Phillies. So, the opted to sign former Cy Young winner Brandon Webb. Webb has missed the majority of the last two seasons with shoulder problems, but the team is hopeful he can regain his old form. The rotation should be respectable even if Webb does not pan out, though. Everyone knows this team can score runs…the Rangers should finish in the top five in that category once again.

Texas is listed at +2000 odds to win the Fall Classic in the latest World Series Odds.

Los Angeles Angels (+160): The pitching staff should improve upon last year's 4.04 ERA (ranked 14th), but Los Angeles may still be looking up at both the Rangers and Athletics if it does not find a way to score more runs. The trade for Vernon Wells may help, but only if the veteran outfielder does not disappear in the middle portion of the season.

Oakland Athletics (+300): The A's finished 81-81 last year, but they could push the Rangers for the AL West crown in 2011 as they did not rest on their .500 laurels. Billy Beane made a number of offseason moves that should benefit the club, including the acquistion of players like David DeJesus, Josh Willingham, Hideki Matsui, Brian Fuentes, Grant Balfour, and Rich Harden. Texas better not sleep on this team.

Seattle Mariners (+1200): It would appear the no offense experiment in Seattle is over with the team picking up free swingers Miguel Olivo and Jack Cust in the offseason. That said, the Mariners still have a long ways to go before they even sniff the type of offense that the Rangers produce on a regular basis. This season will not be as bad as 2010, but it's probably not going to be 2009 either.

2011 AL West Odds Opening Lines:

Texas Rangers +120

Los Angeles Angels +160

Oakland Athletics +300

Seattle Mariners +1200
