2011 NL Central Odds Opening Lines

by Matt Foust on Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Cincinnati shocked the baseball world last season, winning its first division title since the 1995 season; however, 2011 NL Central Odds Opening Lines are not looking for a repeat performance from the Reds. The favorite to win this year's crown is 2009 winner St. Louis at +100 moneyline odds.

St. Louis Cardinals (+100): The starting 2011 NL Central Odds Opening Linesrotation is among the best in baseball, with Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter filling out the top of the order, and the Cardinals, at least for this year, own, arguably, the game's best offensive player in Albert Pujols. If St. Louis turns out another 86-76 season, there will be a lot of disappointed Cardinal fans.

The Cardinals are listed at +1600 moneyline odds to win the World Series in the latest World Series Odds.

Cincinnati Reds (+300): The offense, which ranked fourth in the league in runs scored last season, could get better with the additions of Edgar Renteria and Jeremy Hermida, but this team will retain its title only if the rotation performs like it did in 2010. Johnny Cueto and Edinson Volquez possess a world of talent but they are not the two most consistent pitchers on the planet.

Milwaukee Brewers (+350): The Brewers powerful offense may actually get some help this season as the pitching staff, which posted a miserable 4.58 ERA last year, looks to be vastly upgraded. The team added former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke as well as former Blue Jay Shaun Marcum. Those two additions should help Milwaukee stay in contention all season long.

Chicago Cubs (+500): Adding Matt Garza to the rotation helps, but the Cubs still do not resemble a division winner. Chicago should post more wins than it did in last season's disappointing 75-87 campaign, but it still looks inferior to St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Milwaukee.

Houston Astros (+3500): The Astros pitching staff has some promise, especially if Brett Myers can duplicate last year's effort, but the offense still looks inept. Houston scored 611 runs last season and nothing about its lineup would suggest a major uptick is in order.

Pittsburgh Pirates (+10000): The Pirates had a busy offseason, but referencing "division title" and "Pittsburgh" in the same sentence, unless it's football season, is ludicrous. If everything breaks right for this team, it may make a push to get out of the cellar.

2011 NL Central Odds Opening Lines:

St. Louis Cardinals +100

Cincinnati Reds +300

Milwaukee Brewers +350

Chicago Cubs +500

Houston Astros +3500

Pittsburgh Pirates +10000
