New York Yankees Baseball Predictions 2010: After a nine-year hiatus, the New York Yankees returned to the promised land for an all-time-best 27th World Series Championship. But Yankee fans know within themselves that in order for this team to string together multiple championship seasons, there were some gaps to be filled. As the players begin to report to Tampa Bay, Florida for Spring Training, the Bronx Bombers appear set to go back-to-back and beyond.
For starters, Baseball Predictions 2010 experts at SBGGLOBAL.com believe that the New York Yankees [+300 ML] will go into this season as the sports betting odds favorites to win the 2010 World Series. Much like last offseason, this year the Yankees made significant changes to their roster in an attempt to become a dynasty.
Some of the most prominent names no longer in pinstripes include: OF Johnny Damon, DH Hideki Matsui, OF Melky Cabrera and RHP Chien-Ming Wang just to name a few. The Bombers newest arrivals include: OF Curtis Granderson, RHP Javier Vazquez and 1B Nick Johnson, who returns to the Yanks for a second time in his career.
"People forget that I came up as a left fielder," Granderson said after a workout at the club's complex. "In the Minor Leagues all the way up to Double-A, I didn't start playing center field consistently until my second year in the Minors. Even when I came to the big leagues, I played a few games in left. I have no problem going back over there if that happens to be."
But by the far the biggest storyline going into this season will be the starting rotation’s 5th spot. Will Joba Chamberlain give it another crack at a starting role, or will Phil Hughes step up and assume the position… or will neither? According to some reports, Joba and Hughes will fight for a spot in a rotation that includes: C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Andy Pettitte and the newly-acquired Vazquez.
"You want to win again," Sabathia said. "It makes you want to get back to that feeling again, and get back to that stature. I'm excited to be able to come in, and we've got a new team. We've got some new guys, and I'm excited to see how it goes this year."
Other pitches fighting for a spot in this Spring Training include: Sergio Mitre, Chad Gaudin and Alfredo Aceves.
