St Louis Cardinals Baseball Predictions 2010: The last time the St. Louis Cardinals were on a baseball field, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitching staff was shutting them down and stunning them in the National League’s Divisional Round of the Major League Baseball Playoffs last year. Thus, Cards manager Tony LaRussa and the St. Louis front office decided to bring in controversial batting coach Mark McGwire to help alleviate some of the problem. Will Big Mac’s knowledge be enough for the red bird hitters to get over the hump in the postseason?
According to Baseball Predictions 2010 specialists at SPORTSBOOK.com believe that the St. Louis Cardinals [11/1 or +1100 ML] will go into this season with the fourth best sports betting odds of winning the 2010 World Series. The Cards currently trail New York, Philadelphia, and Boston in this category.
McGwire not only believes that he can improve the way these hitters approach the game, but hard as it is to believe, he truly thinks that three-time/reigning MVP Albert Pujols (2005, 2008, 2009) can still get better than what he is. This week, “Phat Albert” arrived at Cardinals Spring Training to meet and workout with his new hitting coach for the first time.
"It's real simple things," McGwire said. "You talk about eye position. I'm really big on which eye is your dominant eye. … You talk about simple things like that. I treat it like Little League. What did you do when you were in Little League? You got up there and saw the baseball. So that's the first thing to do. You have to see the baseball. You have to understand that. So that's basically how I start things."
One thing that certainly works in Big Mac’s favor in learning on the fly is that he has had the opportunity to work with some of these guys before. McGwire has worked with Skip Schumaker, Brendan Ryan and Matt Holliday in California in recent winters. The coach also took the time and traveled to Austin, Texas this offseason to work with Holliday and Ryan Ludwick.
"I went and spent two days with them," McGwire said. "Came home and talked to Tony and said, 'Wow.' That's all I said. I said, 'Wow.' We worked two days in a row, and I said, 'The 3-4-5 hitters, it's going to be good.' The thing is, they pick up things. That's the thing that's very impressive, is how you say something and they can pick it up and they try to put it into their swing. I would have done that all winter. I'll go see anybody to try to help them out."
