by Abe Luciano on Saturday, March 7th, 2009

2009 World Baseball Classic: Dominican Republic (0-0) vs. Netherlands (0-0) Betting Odds: In this year’s 2009 World Baseball Classic Betting Odds, Pool D games will be held at Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, beginning Saturday March 7th, as the Dominican Republic opens play against the Netherlands at 11 AM ET (8 AM PT) on ESPN2.

This Pool isn’t quite as competitive as Pool C, as the Dominican Republic [-400] is the clear favorite in 2009 World Baseball Classic’s Pool D by a landslide.

In the opening Pool D game, the Dominican Republic [-7½] is also a heavy Sports Odds favorite against the Netherlands [+7½].

For the Dominicans, RHP Edison Volquez will get the nod, as D.R. will play as the home team.

Volquez started the only game that the Dominicans won during their 3 exhibition games against Major League Baseball clubs this week. The OVER/UNDER for this 2009 World Baseball Classic: Dominican Republic vs. Netherlands Betting Odds has been set at a combined total of 12½ runs.

For the Netherlands, RHP Sidney Ponson will get the start. Although Ponson suffered the loss in this year’s first exhibition game for the Netherlands, he’s certainly seasoned enough to take advantage of a Dominican club that has struggled to produce over their past 2 exhibition games.
