Roger Clemens vs Jose Canseco Grand Jury Seeks Indictment? The Steroid-era in baseball is still missing a few key components before it can be placed in the past and for it to remain there. By far, two of the biggest question marks in baseball’s dark age are the denials of both, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens to the accusations that they used performance-enhancing drugs during their respective, stellar careers. The man that started it all, Jose Canseco is back on the spotlight.
According to various reports and a Tweet by the former Bash Brother, the grand jury investigating whether Roger Clemens committed perjury when he denied having ever used PED in front of Congress, has contacted his attorney. Canseco claims that he received a subpoena to appear before the grand jury, and is also expecting a visit from the FBI in the near future.
The subpoena is in regards to the April 8th 2008 testimony of Roger Clemens, Andrew Pettitte and others. “Its like the godfather,” Canseco stated. “When I thought I was out they drag me back in. And now it begins again.”
The Yankees lefty, who became the winningest pitcher in postseason history during the pinstripes’ 27th championship run last year, has already admitted to have taken HGH to recuperate from an injury earlier in his career. According to the testimony, Pettitte threw Clemens under the bus, telling investigators that the 7-time Cy Young recipient had communicated to him that he indeed used HGH some ten years ago.
But Canseco has said all along that Clemens is clean from any guilt, which could help the former power-pitcher in front of this Washington federal grand jury and their perjury investigation. In Canseco’s (2005) “Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant ‘Roids, Smash Hits, and How Baseball Got Big,” he made very clear that he knew nothing of Clemens cheating the game.
Furthermore, Canseco reiterated that in the 2008 affidavit that was submitted to the same congressional committee that heard Clemens and Pettitte’s testimony:
“I have never had a conversation with Clemens in which he expressed any interest in using steroids or human growth hormone,” Canseco stated in 2008. “Clemens has never asked me to give him steroids or human growth hormone, and I have never seen Clemens use, possess or ask for steroids or human growth hormone.”
