Giants vs Dodgers MLB 2010 Odds – April 16, 2010: Off to fast start out of the gate, the (7-2) San Francisco Giants [+140 ML] will try and keep things going, as they visit their longtime intrastate rival, the sports betting odds favorite (4-5) Los Angeles Dodgers [-155 ML] tonight. This will be the first meeting of the season between these bitter foes, and game one has a scheduled start 10:10 PM ET (7:10 PM PT) start and it can be seen live on NBC-11 and/or K-CAL.
The Giants are filled with confidence in the early going, as strong starting pitching has been the recipe for success. Thus, San Francisco comes in leading the way in the National League West, while the Dodgers sit in third place, three games behind the league-leading Giants.
On the hill tonight for Frisco will be RHP Todd Wellemeyer (0-1, 5.68 ERA), who has yet to register a decision against Los Angeles in his career (0-0, 4.26 ERA). "I felt if we played the way we did in Spring Training and the pitchers threw the way they did, we'd get out of the gate fast," Giants skipper Bruce Bochy said.
For the Dodgers, they have gotten off to a very slow start and in contrast to SF, their troubles are for the most part due to poor starting pitching. After finishing the season looking like an ace, tonight’s starter, RHP Vicente Padilla (0-1, 11.42 ERA) has fallen into his old habits.
After getting rocked as the Dodgers Opening Day starter, the Nicaraguan-born righty was once again roughed up in Florida. Despite appearing to be throwing the ball well, Padilla allowed four runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out sic over his 4 1/3 innings of labor. Needless, to say that this is going to be a key start for the 2002 All-Star, who comes in with a 4-3 and a 3.00 ERA against the Giants.
