MLB Prediction: Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees Game 1

by Abe Luciano on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

After a convincing 3-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners and a day off, the Bronx Bombers return to action Tuesday evening as they welcome to the Cathedral of Baseball their post-season rivals the Cleveland Indians. For the Indians this is the last time (in the regular season) they will play at the legendary “Big Ballpark in the Bronx” unless they meet in the playoffs of course. But if they don’t, the next time the Tribe visits the Bronx will be across the street in the new stadium. Sportsbetting.com the New York Yankees -131 favorites in tonight's home match-up against the Cleveland Indians +121 and the Over/Under has been set at a cobined 9 runs total.

Tonight’s pitching match-up is an absolute dandy. The visiting Indians will send to the mound flamethrower RHP Fausto Carmona (3-1, 2.60 ERA, 13 Ks). This will be Carmona’s first start against the Yankees this season. Fausto is 0-0 with a 3.24 ERA, in three career star appearances at “The House that Ruth Built”. Carmona’s counterpart, and pitching for the home team NY Yankees will be LHP Andy Pettitte (3-3, 3.93 ERA, 20 Ks).

Andy Pettitte who has battled back problems this year since the beginning of spring training got off to a great start winning 3 of his first 4 starts this season.

However, lately he has gotten into some trouble, and come in loser of his last 2 starts, including one against the Tribe.

Andy’s last start against the Indians this season came just a few weeks ago at Cleveland. In a loosing effort, the big lefty allowed 8 hits, 4 ER, 3 BB, and 3 Ks in only 5.0 innings of work. Pettitte will look to turn that around tonight in the series opener in front of the home fans.

MLB Prediction: NYY -131
