The biggest rivalry in sports was renewed last night, as the (18-20) Boston Red Sox [+123] took the series opener against the Sports Betting Odds favorite (20-16) New York Yankees [-133]. Game 2 of this three-game set is scheduled to get underway this evening, from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, and it’ll be broadcasted live on FOX.
On the hill tonight for the visiting Red Sox will be a familiar foe, as RHP Josh Beckett (2-1, 1.99 ERA) takes the
hill against Yankees’ ace. LHP CC Sabathia (3-2, 2.89 ERA). As a direct result of this fantastic pitching matchup, MLB Odds makers believe that the Red Sox and Yankees will combine and score an OVER/UNDER of 8½ runs this evening.
"I think CC loves the competition — I think he embraces it," said Yankees skipper, Joe Girardi. "I think he looks forward to being the ace of the staff and trying to get big wins for the club."
The last time Beckett and CC went head-to-head dates back to last month, when the hard-throwing righty got the best of his lefty counterpart. The former Marlin was lights out on April 10th, blanking out the pinstripes to the tune of 8 innings, allowing just 2 hits, issuing just 1 free pass while striking out 10. In many people’s opinion, that could have easily been his best performance in a Red Sox uniform.
"Best I've seen him," said longtime Boston backstop, Jason Varitek. "As far as complete, absolutely."
