MLB’s Inter-league play, kicks off tonight with the Subway Series between the (20-22) New York Yankees hosting their in-state rivals, the (20-19) New York Metropolitans from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. In past years, the Subway Series has become a fan-favorite not only in the Tri-state area, but nation-wide. However, the way these two nemeses have started their respective seasons, this 3-game set appears more like the “Train-Wreck Series”. BodogLife.com has the New York Mets a -143 favorites on the road against the New York Yankees +133 with the O/U set at a combined 8 (-115) total runs. For the Mets, newly acquired Venezuelan LHP Johan Santana, will get his first taste of inter-league play in the Big Apple. Santana, who was signed as a free agent by the Mets, almost became a NY Yankee during the off-season. But the Mets outbid them. Probably because co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner didn’t feel Santana was worth the price of admission… great job Hank! With the Yankees ongoing pitching crisis, the Cy Young winner (Santana) would have been a perfect fit for this ball club. Instead, Hank and Cashman pinned their hopes on two inexperienced kids… and I think everyone knows by now, how that decision played out. Tonight’s pitching match-up: LHP Johan Santana (through 8 starts): 2008 Record: 4-2 ERA: 3.10 Strikeouts: 52 RHP Darrell Rasner: (through 2 starts): 2008 (MLB) Record: 2-0 ERA: 3.00 Strikeouts: 5
