The surging Diamondbacks will look to win their four game set with Colorado tonight as the two division rivals tangle in a series finale at Coors Field. First pitch in this evening's capper is scheduled for 8:40p.m. ET. The latest Sports Betting Odds have the Rockies and the Over 9.5 listed as -165 and -120 favorites respectively.
Arizona recorded its 10th victory in its last
12 games last night as it took a 2-1 series lead over the hosting Rockies with a 2-1 win. Diamondbacks' starter Ian Kennedy was masterful over eight innings, giving up seven hits and one earned run in route to his sixth win of the season.
The Rockies' Jason Hammel was also impressive, allowing just five hits over seven innings, but a two run sixth proved to be enough for Arizona to get the victory.
Last night's win saw Arizona, now 25-24 overall pass Colorado in the National League West standings. The Diamondbacks, which are 2.5 games back of the first place Giants, own a half game lead over the 24-24 Rockies.
The Rockies, losers in five of their last six games, will look to right their course tonight with 26 year old right hander Clayton Mortensen on the hill. Mortensen, who has mixed his time between the rotation and the bullpen this season, owns an impressive 2.17 ERA in 29 innings of work. The Gonzaga graduate last pitched on Saturday when he held the Brewers to five hits and two earned runs at Miller Park.
Arizona will challenge Colorado's lineup with four year veteran Micah Owings. Owings, who is filling in for the injured Zach Duke, made his first appearance of the season over the weekend. He nearly earned a quality start, but he lasted just 5 1/3 innings after the Twins scored two runs in the bottom sixth.
Owings, who began his career with the Diamondbacks, but spent the last two seasons in Cincinnati, is 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA in two career starts opposite Colorado.
Tonight's game marks the ninth meeting of the season between these two rivals; Arizona currently owns a 5-3 edge in the series.
MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Over is 8-2 in Arizona's last 10 games as a road dog at Colorado with a total between 9.5 and 10.
