On Saturday May 31, 2008, the ever-imposing Manny Ramirez was immortalized, as he became only the 24th player in MLB history to join the 500th career home run club. Manny Ramirez Hit 500th career home run against the Baltimore Orioles; it is his tenth of the 2008 campaign, and it is also career HR No. 264 with the Boston Red Sox. Only two other Red Sox players have ever hit 500+ career home runs, Jimmie Fox (in1940) and Ted Williams (1960). Manny’s reached this incredible milestone in only 7,263 career at-bats, and became his 32nd HR against the Orioles. The Red Sox also went one to win that game, 6-2. The Boston Red Sox will try to win the series with a win against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. SportsBetting.com has the Boston Red Sox a -140 MLB betting odds against the (+120) Baltimore Orioles with the O/U set at 9 ½.
One day after celebrating his birthday, Manny decided to give himself a belated birthday present. On the 7th inning Manny blasted the first pitch he saw in the at-bat to right-center field off of Chad Bradford to hit his 500th career home run, and ultimately give the Red Sox the outright lead.
After receiving a standing ovation from the Orioles Park at Camden Yards crowd, Manny spoke to the media: "I'm happy, you know, about everything I accomplished in life… not everybody has the chance to go and get to 500. I'm just proud to do it… every time you get to the hotel, (people say), 'Hey, when you gonna hit it?' I'm just happy everything's done for now, and I can go be myself and have fun."
Manny will go for HR No. 501, as the Red Sox will face (26-28) Baltimore Oriole’s LHP Brian Burres (4-4, 4.15, and 29 K). The Dominican-born RHP Bartolo Colon (2-0, 2.25, and 8 K) will be toeing the rubber tonight for the (34-24) Boston Red Sox.
