MLB Picks 2012 Chicago White Sox vs Los Angeles Dodgers

by Matt Foust on Friday, June 15th, 2012

dodgers kershawAmerican League Central front runner Chicago will look to snap a two game skid tonight when it opens a three game inter-league set opposite the Dodgers in Los Angeles. This evening’s series opener is scheduled for a 10:10pm ET start at Dodger Stadium. The latest MLB Odds have Los Angeles listed as a -120 moneyline favorite; the Under six runs is also favored at -120 odds. The White Sox are drawing even odds (+100) to pull off the upset.

Inter-league play has not gone well for the White Sox thus far with the team dropping four of its six games against the National League. The Astros took two out of three from the White Sox in Chicago, and the Cardinals earned a series win over Robin Ventura’s squad last night at Busch Stadium.

Despite its recent slide, Chicago, at 34-29, still holds a 1.5 game lead over the second place Indians in the AL Central standings. With 23 year old southpaw Chris Sale toeing the rubber, there is a decent chance the White Sox will maintain or increase their lead tonight.

Sale comes into this evening’s contest with an 8-2 record, 2.05 ERA, and 0.92 WHIP. The Florida native has fanned 76 batters in 74.1 innings pitched (just 18 walks) and opponents are hitting just .188 against him. The White Sox are 5-0 in Sale’s last five outings and they are 7-1 in his last eight appearances, winning by an average of 4.3 runs per game.

Los Angeles (40-24 overall, 22-11 home) holds a four game lead over the Giants in the NL West, despite dropping two out of three to the Angels at home earlier this week. The Dodgers will attempt to get back on track with staff ace and 2011 Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw on the hill.

Kershaw, who sports a 5-3 record in 13 starts, takes a 2.65 ERA and 1.00 WHIP to the mound this evening. The hard throwing lefty, who has battled a sore foot of late, has allowed 20 hits and 11 earned runs in his last three starts, though (19.2 innings pitched). Still, the Dodgers went 2-1 in those games and they are 9-4 (5-3 at Dodger Stadium) in Kershaw’s 13 appearances.

MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Dodgers are 2-8 in their last 10 games as a home favorite versus a left handed pitcher with a moneyline spread between 100 and 120.
