The Diamondbacks took game one of their three game set with the Angels, beating L.A. 5-0 in last night’s series opener. Arizona will shoot for the series win this evening with former Angel Joe Saunders toeing the rubber. This evening’s game is scheduled for a 10:05pm ET start at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. MLB Odds have Los Angeles listed as a -130 moneyline favorite and the Under 8.5 set at -115 odds. The Diamondbacks are a +120 moneyline underdog to take a 2-0 series lead.
Los Angeles, which has won six of its last seven series, fell in a 0-1 hole to the Diamondbacks last night, losing 5-0 after former Athletics hurler Trevor Cahill yielded just three hits and struck out eight over seven innings. The Angels Dan Haren failed to match the play of his Arizona counterpart, giving up eight hits and five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings pitched.
Veteran right hander Ervin Santana will look to avoid the same fate as his rotation mate when he takes the hill tonight. Santana’s performance this season would suggest he might be in for even worse than Haren. The Dominican native, who owns a 3-7 record and 5.74 ERA, has really struggled of late. In his last three starts Santana has allowed 23 hits, 19 earned runs, eight walks, and five home runs (15.1 innings pitched). Amazingly the Angels earned a win in his last appearance, a 10-8 victory over the Rockies.
Countering Santana this evening is the aforementioned Saunders. The soft throwing lefty enters tonight’s start with a 4-4 record and 3.48 ERA (12 starts). He was in top form his last time out, giving up seven hits, one earned run while striking out five (six innings pitched) in a 4-3 win against the Athletics.
