The Subway Series arrives at game two this evening as the surging Mets look to go up 2-0 over their cross town rivals and take their second consecutive inter-league set. Tonight’s game, which features starters Ivan Nova and Chris Young, is scheduled for a 7:15pm ET start at Citi Field. The latest MLB Odds at Bovada.lv have the visiting Yankees listed as a -150 moneyline favorite; the Over 8.5 runs is favored at -125 odds.
The Yankees AL East lead dropped to 1.5 games last night as they fell 6-4 in their series opener with the Mets. Joe Girardi’s crew, which has lost three straight games, cranked out 11 hits in the loss, including two each from Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez, but the Mets early abuse of Andy Pettitte proved too much to overcome.
The Mets tagged Pettitte for five earned runs in the bottom of the first, giving starter Jonathan Niese, who allowed two earned runs over 6 1/3 innings, all the cushion he needed. New York improved to 39-32 with the win and moved to within 2.5 games of NL East leader Washington.
The Mets look to secure their fifth straight win tonight with veteran right hander Chris Young on the hill. Young, who is making his fourth start of the season, comes into this evening’s contest with a 1-1 record and 3.06 ERA. Despite those respectable numbers, the former Padre has struggled to keep runners off base. Young has yielded 24 hits and five free passes in 17 2/3 innings of work this season, giving him an eye popping 1.64 WHIP.
The Yankees Ivan Nova (9-2 in 13 starts) will look to halt New York’s recent slide tonight as he takes the ball for Girardi. Nova possesses a pedestrian 4.32 ERA, but he has been outstanding in his last three starts, giving up just 16 hits and two earned runs while striking out 15 (22.2 innings). The Yankees are 5-0 in Nova’s last five outings and they are 11-2 overall in his 13 appearances. Nova is 6-0 with a 3.47 ERA in seven road starts this season (Yankees 7-0 in those games).
MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Yankees are 9-1 in their last 10 June games as a road favorite versus a right handed pitcher with a game total between 8.5 and 9 runs.
