The Los Angeles Angels will look for their sixth win in seven outings when they close out their two game set with the Orioles later tonight. This evening’s finale is scheduled for a 7:05pm ET start at Camden Yards in Baltimore. MLB Odds have the visiting Angels listed as a -124 moneyline favorite while the Under 7.5 is drawing -115 odds. The Orioles are a +114 moneyline play to earn a 1-1 split in the abbreviated series.
The Angels, fresh off its second series win over the Dodgers, rolled into Baltimore yesterday and put a 7-3 whipping on the Orioles. Los Angeles wrapped out 17 hits, 13 of which came off of starter Brian Matusz, and they sent four balls over the fence at Camden Yards. C.J. Wilson did his part to keep Baltimore’s offense in check, limiting the O’s to six hits and one earned run over seven innings.
The Angels offensive exploits and Wilson solid starting effort helped improve the team’s record to 41-33 overall and they left L.A. within striking distance of the AL West leading Rangers (4.5 games), who stand at 46-29 after last night’s 7-5 win over Detroit.
Los Angeles will look to continue its dominance this evening with the recently returned Jered Weaver on the hill. Last Wednesday Weaver made his first appearance since going on DL in late May; he gave up just two hits and allowed no runs over six innings in a 6-0 win over the Giants in Anaheim. The stellar performance brought Weaver’s record to 7-1 on the season (12 starts) and it lowered his ERA to 2.40.
Baltimore, which fell to 41-32 and four games back of the first place Yankees in the AL East with last night’s loss, will counter Weaver with 29 year old righty Jason Hammel. Hammel, who owns a career 4.73 ERA (183 games, 125 starts), is having a career year in his first season with the Orioles. The six year veteran sports an 8-2 record and 2.61 ERA through 14 starts and he is coming off two dominant outings. Hammel worked 17 innings in his last two starts, allowing only six hits to go along with no earned runs; he also struck out 18 batters over those 17 innings to just two walks. Baltimore is 6-1 in his last seven appearances and they are 5-1 in his six showings at Oriole Park.
MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Angels are 9-1 in their last 10 games as a road favorite.
