MLB Picks 2012 New York Mets vs Los Angeles Dodgers

dodgers matt kempLos Angeles will attempt to snap out of its extended funk tonight as it opens a three game home set with the New York Mets. This evening’s game one clash, which features starters Chris Young and Chris Capuano, is scheduled to get underway at 10:10pm ET at Dodger Stadium. MLB Odds at TopBet.com have the hosting Dodgers listed as a -129 moneyline favorite while the Under 7 runs is drawing -130 odds. The Mets are a +119 underdog play.

At one point in the season, the Dodgers were probably considered by many to be the best team in the league, but that point has come and gone. Right now, Los Angeles is playing like, arguably, the worst team in baseball, having scored just 13 runs in its last nine games.

The Dodgers offensive collapse has resulted in the team posting a 1-8 record since June 19th, and never was it more problematic than in this week’s series with NL West rival San Francisco. Los Angeles did not produce a single run in its three game set with the Giants, allowing San Francisco to pull into a first place tie in the division standings.

The Dodgers can only hope the offense comes alive tonight when they face former Padre Chris Young. Young, who has made only four starts this season, has not been spectacular, but he has certainly been adequate, allowing just nine earned runs in 23 2/3 innings of work for a 3.42 ERA. Unfortunately for the towering right hander, the Mets, outside on an 11 outburst against the Rays, have not provided him a great deal of offensive support (scored 10 total runs in his other three starts). Consequently, New York is just 1-3 with Young on the hill this season.

The Mets, who are coming off back-to-back series losses, improved their record to 40-36 yesterday as they pounded out an eye popping 17 runs in a series finale win over the Cubs. They will look to keep the bats hot this evening when they square off against former Met Chris Capuano. Capuano, who is having a career year, enters tonight’s start with a 9-2 record and 2.60 ERA. He is coming off two starts in which he allowed just 13 hits, two earned runs, and one walk over 15 innings (16 strikeouts). Capuano is 5-0 with a 1.57 ERA in seven starts at Dodger Stadium this season.

MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Dodgers are 9-1 in their last 10 games as a home favorite with a moneyline spread between 120 and 140 and a game total between 6 and 7 runs.
