The free falling Dodgers will shoot for their first series win since mid-June when they take on the Reds in a Fourth of July finale at Los Angeles. Tonight’s rubber match between the two National League clubs is scheduled to get underway at 9:10pm ET. The latest MLB Odds have Cincinnati listed as a -140 moneyline favorite while the Dodgers are drawing +130 as a home underdog. The Over/Under in this evening’s contest is set at seven runs; the Over is favored at -115 odds.
Los Angeles recorded just its third win since June 18th on last night, beating the Reds 3-1 to even its series with Cincinnati at a game apiece. The Dodgers bats were anything but hot as the team’s offensive slide continued; however, the three runs and seven hits it produced off of Johnny Cueto proved enough to get the win. Starter Chris Capuano and four relievers saw to it that L.A.’s lack of offense would not generate another undoing as they held the Reds to seven hits and one earned run.
Now the Dodgers are position to secure their first series win since taking two out of three from the White Sox in mid-June. Ten year veteran Aaron Harang gets tonight’s assignment as he attempts to garner his sixth win of the season. Harang comes into this evening’s game with a 3.68 ERA but his WHIP is an elevated 1.48. The former Red has done nothing but hurt those totals in his last three outings, giving up 18 hits, 10 earned runs, and 14 walks (15.1 innings pitched) in losses to the Athletics, Angels, and Mets.
Cincinnati, which now sits in a first place tie with the Pirates in the NL Central at 44-36, will call on second year pro Mike Leake tonight. Leake owns a 4.12 ERA and a .275 batting average against, but he is coming three consecutive quality starts. Leake hurled a gem his last time out, holding the Giants to one earned run in a complete game performance at AT&T Park in San Francisco (Reds won 5-1). Leake has done his best work on the road where he is 2-2 with a 3.19 ERA in seven starts.
MLB Odds Betting Trend: The Reds, who are 4-1 in their last five against the Dodgers, are 7-3 in their last 10 games as a road favorite with a moneyline spread between 140 and 160.
