tigers verlanderThe 83rd edition of the Mid-Summer Classic takes place tonight as the American League All-Stars battle the National League All-Stars at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. This evening All-Star Game is scheduled to get underway at 8:00pm ET; it will be broadcast live on FOX. The latest MLB Odds have the American League listed as a -136 moneyline favorite. The Over/Under is set at 8.5 runs; the Over is presently favored at -115 odds.

The American League, which posted a 12-0-1 record in the All-Star Game from 1997-2009, will attempt to snap the National League’s two game All-Star win streak tonight. The senior circuit won the event 3-1 in 2010 and it took last year’s game 5-1 after the NL pitching staff held the AL’s loaded lineup to five hits.

National League Skipper Tony LaRussa will look for a similar effort this evening as he calls on the likes of Matt Cain, Clayton Kershaw, and R.A. Dickey to throttle the American League’s power laden roster. Cain, who hurled a perfect game against the Astros on June 13th, will get the start tonight after posting a 9-3 record and 2.62 ERA in the season’s first half.

Texas Rangers’ Skipper Ron Washington, who will manage the AL All-Stars tonight, is set to counter Cain with reigning AL MVP and Cy Young winner, Justin Verlander. Verlander, who is making his fifth All-Star Game appearance, owns a 9-5 record, 2.58 ERA, and 0.95 WHIP.

Verlander and the rest of the AL staff will face an NL lineup that includes starters Carlos Gonzalez, Melky Cabrera, Ryan Braun, Joey Votto, Carlos Beltran, Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, Dan Uggla, and Rafael Furcal.

Cain and his rotation mates will look to tame American League starters Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano, Josh Hamilton, Jose Bautista, Prince Fielder, Adrian Beltre, David Ortiz, Mike Napoli, and Curtis Granderson.
