New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays MLB Prediction: First and foremost the New York Yankees will not be playing just another baseball game Sunday afternoon in Toronto, Canada. The Yankees family will have their thoughts and prayers, and will be playing with a heavy heart; after long time Yankee favorite, Bobby Murcer, passed away Saturday after loosing his battle with brain cancer at the age of 62. The New York Yankees (50-44) will play one more game with the Toronto Blue Jays (46-48) before heading back to the Big Apple, to celebrate the last All-Star game played at the “Cathedral of Baseball.” The 2008 All-star festivities will kick off Monday night with the Home Run Derby. But first up is the final game of these AL East divisional rivals; which is set to begin at 1:05 pm ET. SportsBook.com has the New York Yankees -125 betting odds favorite at the Toronto Blue Jays (+105); and the Over/Under set at a total of 8½ runs. What a great pitching match up we have before going into the break. Certainly both teams would like to gain some momentum before the unofficial start of the second half of the season. At this point, with 2 great pitchers on the mound, an O/U combined run total of 8½ seems a bit farfetched. The visiting New York Yankees will have on the mound the veteran LHP Andy Pettitte (10-6, 3.93 ERA). Thus far, Pettitte has had sort of a up and down season, but seems to be settling into a nice groove as of late; going 5-1 in his last 6 starts. Besides his July 8th start against Boston, when he surrendered 5 runs in 4.2 IP, Pettitte has allowed a total of 3 ER in the same 6-game stretch. The Yankees will certainly need another quality start from Pettitte, as they’ll be facing a flame-thrower in A.J. Burnett. For the Jays, Burnett has had a disappointing season so far; disappointing in the sense that this RHP’s talents are superb. Burnett thus far (in 19 starts) has a record of 9-8, with an ERA of 5.23, along with 118 strikeouts, and 56 free passes.
